Having moved to New York for 4 months, it is impossible to get a credit card. What I don't understand is that I have Amex Gold card which I have been using since I arrived and have been paying promptly.

But when I applied for a credit card, I get declined becos the agency does not have any of my records.

I have a well paid job and on expatriate terms but no credit card!!

    What can I do!?

Call up amex and talk to them about their blue or optima (delta skymiles!!) cards.

I'm sure they'll believe where you live. :)

Thanks. Actually, I do not need credit but because I travel quite a bit internationally, I bump into places where they take only VISA or MASTERCARD.

AMEX has been great. When I applied from Singapore without a social secruity number, they processed it immediately.

    I recommend AMEX to all.

I was poking around on the Citibank site and discovered that they are now advertising their "expatriate services" - you might want to try contacting them.

    http://www.citibank.com/pboe/homepage/index.htm

Scroll all the way down. It doesn't seem to limit those services to Americans in other countries, so I assume that foreign nationals residing and working here could qualify.
