Tell me that this wasn't stupid. I have a legit $200 debt with a loca hospital, that was assigned to a CA. I disputed with all EQ and TU (EXP is not reporting it), both came back verified. Well, I paid the debt to the hospital today (not the CA) with my credit card over the phone. They are mailing me a receipt. I know I should've went with a money order/HIPPA notice, but I had a moment of stupidity. I just figured it'd be easier to get off if it was paid. Was this a totally stupid thing to do? I plan to followup with a HIPPA notice to the hospital, and try to get them to delete the tradeline. I had requested validation from the CA, but they validated -- completely, IMO. So, since I've paid this off the wrong way, what should I do now? I didn't even try to arrange a "pay for delete". I thought I was doing good to pay the hospital instead of the CA.
NEVER DEAL WITH A CA when you can deal with the ORIGINAL CREDITOR... Just send a GOODWILL letter if they don't remove it with-out asking...(give it 1-2 months) NOT AN EXPERT...BUT WHAT YOU DID SHOULD BE OK...
That makes me feel somewhat relieved... On a side note, my mom is apparently friends with the lady in charge of the hospital billing department. She neglected to mention that to me until after I paid... I'm going to see if I can work that contact.
the hospitals here will send it to a CA..if you pay the hospital, they just forward the payment to the CA.
According to the lady at the hospital, they do *not* forward payment to the CA. The debt was *assigned* to the CA, not sold. She said that they take the account back from the CA if the hospital receives payment...
What? What great news for you! Assigned? means I can pay the hospital and then the negative TL will go away? Mine all say assigned... *faint* Gosh, if true how civilized would that be? Why can't they all be that way?
Be sure that the CA removes the tradeline from your reports (if they're reporting). Do not be suprised if they report it now as a "Paid Collection". You did not pay them (the CA), so it's not a paid collection. Get their tradeline removed "completely". If it's the hospital reporting, try a Goodwill letter.
Re: Re: Just paid med collect/the wrong way Wake up Gretchen. lol It's not always that easy. Depends upon the reason for the withdrawal. If it gets settled because it's paid, sometimes the OC, even though they get the money, will still forward the appropriate commission to the CA. They believe that since they did work on the file they're entitled to commission, no matter who gets paid. In this case I'd use my Mom's contact to make sure the file is withdrawn as "Reported in Error". This triggers and AUTOMATIC deletion from the CR. Good luck Jones. Put that bug in your Mom's ear. Remember "Reported in Error". Let us know how it goes.
