I just send Citi a PFB, hoping they would grant me a goodwill adjustment here's the letter. I'll keep you informed on the results. Scott Vanderwilt SSN# Acct: Dear Citibank, For a couple of years now I have been diligently working toward handling credit responsibly and improving my credit bureau scores. I am hoping that Citibank might be willing to help me in this regard. I opened an Office Depot account in 1998 (account # listed at top) when I was still a college student. I had the card for a couple of months, when I decided it was time to buy a new computer. I noticed that Office Depot had a deal where you buy a computer and you do not have to make payments for 6 months. Being college student, I thought this was my best option. I purchased a computer sometime in 1999. Well 6 months seemed to just fly by, and before I realized it the payments were due. Being young and inexperienced I did not know the importance of paying your bills promptly. I fell behind by a couple of months, but still wanted to make good on my debt. I was contacted by a customer service representative for Citibank, with whom I worked out a plan to pay $50 a month. This worked out well for me and after 6 months I decided to just pay the remainder off, including all late charges and other fees added to my account. Iâ??m not extremely clear on the details on the late pays, but my credit report states I have one 30 day late pay and two 60 day late pays. As I indicated, I am working very hard toward having an excellent credit picture. You have even rewarded my efforts by giving me a card to purchase furniture in the amount of $2500. This Office Depot account is the only negative on my report and is hurting my credit extremely. Would you be willing to : 1. Recognize that I did pay all outstanding debts on my Office Depot card, and that while I was not ready to handle the seriousness of credit, I have proven myself as a responsible consumer. 2. Update my Experian, Equifax, and Trans Union credit record for Citibank to reflect Pays As Agreed or delete the account completely. 3. Consider allowing me a credit line with Citibank (anything would be appreciated) so I can show you the dramatic difference in how I handle my financial obligations now? If you will do a check of my credit bureau reports, youâ??ll see the change. My credit needs are now primarily for business purposes and I am hoping as my credit picture continues to improve I will have access to significant credit lines to allow for some expansions Iâ??d like to make. Anything you can do to help me in this regard will be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if there is anything I am able to do to correct my past errors with my Citibank account. Sincerely, Scott address city state zip
Just got a letter back from Citi!!! I was pretty nervous...was afraid I was going to be stuck with this negative trademark for 5 more years, but they said they'd update it to a positive one!!!!!! I am finally going to have a clean report (experian) with one small derog each on the other two. Thanks to all for the help!! Does anyone know how long it takes the CRA's to change the report once they send them an update??? I might actually be close to the 700 club!!!! scott
I THINK IT CAN TAKE UP TO 90 (NINETY) DAYS. IF YOU'RE IN A HURRY, DISPUTE IT WITH THE CRA's. IT SHOULD'NT TAKE LONG IF YOU DO. CONSIDERING THAT THE CRA ACTUALLY "CONTACTS" CITI.
I had the same luck with Citi. They oversee my Radio Shack card, which had four 30-day lates back in 96', 97'. I sent them this impassioned letter (via PFB): June 23, 2002 TO: Sanford I Weill, CEO Citibank N A 399 Park Avenue New York, NY 10022-4614 FROM: John Klinge PO Box XXXXX San Jose, CA 95172 (408) XXX-XXXX RE: PLANETFEEDBACK REFERENCE NUMBER 1614834 Dear Mr. Weill, I write to you in the hope that you might be of some assistance in helping me clear up a matter with my credit report. I have been a holder of a Radio Shack credit card (issued through Citibank) since 1988, and have only spoken with your company on one occasion previously (I asked for a credit line increase a few years back). My Radio Shack account number is: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-5097 My present concern is with the reports of delinquency Radio Shack (Citibank) supplied to the credit bureaus on four occasions, dating from March 1996 thru June 1997. Missing the payments was related to my initial lack of success, upon relocating to California, in finding a stable job quick enough. Truthfully, I've never really considered the negative downside that missing a few payments in the past on a revolving credit account could have--until I recently experienced this. I been having no luck obtaining unsecured credit, and I am fearful of applying for a home loan because of the expectation of denial. I sincerely hope that you might consider requesting from the credit bureaus a change to those negative late reportings to reflect never late. I really know of no other way of going about this, but to plea and promise. I've already made my plea. As for my promise, that has already begun: Though I haven't missed any payments since 1997, a few months ago I undertook to have my credit union automatically transfer my payment to Radio Shack each month, on the first day of each month. This was done as an assurance (and convenience) for me--and a reassurance to you--that I shall never miss another payment. If you would prefer to discuss this by telephone, I can be reached during the hours 8:00am to 5:00pm at: (408) XXX-XXXX. During the evening hours, I can be reached at: (408) XXX-XXXX. Thank you for any response you give this, and I hope to here from you soon. Sincerely, John Klinge I received a letter today stating that they had finished investigating my case, and continued on to say: "We have corrected the credit history on the account and it will be reported with a satisfactory rating..." The contact's name at Citibank was Brenda Bryant. (Y) Peace out! doombug
Thanks all for the help! I think I will get the fax numbers and fax them the letter on Monday. Hopefully they will all update soon. I'm kind of worried that I may be playing with fire and that I should leave it alone just in case. I messed with an auto loan and got burned. Still fighting that one. thanks again scott
Congrats! When we got our goodwill acjustment from Citi, it only affected EXP, but the speed with which it happened was incredible! I just double checked the dates. We faxed the letter 12/31/01 They mailed response letter to us and to CRAs 1/4/02. Account was deleted 1/6/02. Can't ask for much better than that. Personally, rather than disputing, I'd wait a bit to give them a chance to take care of it. They surely did right by us! DemPooches
