I have a credit card that from the company I only get SPANISH letters. I have written them time & time again that I only speak English, (I originally got the card when I had a Spanish roomate at a Spanish store in Los Angeles called LA CURACAO). I have now been laid off and the percentage rate is extremely high. I tried to get them to lower the interest rate & they said no, but every time I make a payment of $55.00 the interest is $60.00 + they add an over the limit fee! Does anyone know how I can get through to them & make payments without hurting my credit worthiness more? What type of a letter can I send, they keep sending me Spanish letters but I have no clue what they say & now there is nobody around my new address that speaks Spanish.
I am quite fluent in Spanish and can both read and write the language as well. Perhaps I can help you. I can easily read the letters and stuff they send you and prepare the appropriate repliees as well.
GO to www.altavista.com. Look in the heading and find translate(look for the fish graphic). There you will find a simple web application that can translate between 5 or so languages. That should be a start.
Fat Jake: That may be an excellent idea except for the fact that such mechanical contrivances as that do not take into account the finer nuances that a speaker of the language would know about. Using that mechanical moustrap, he could easily come up with an understanding of what the letter said that was far from what the writer of it intended to convey. He could easily get himself into a real pickle if that were to happen. I've tried to use that dumb thing several times and it's not all that good to say the least. What really gets fun is when you try to use it to convert from a romantic language to a gothic or gaelic language. Try to get it to convert from Portugese to German for example. If you don't know both languages, you would make some unimaginably horrible mistakes, some of them really, really funny. Even Portugese to Spanish translations produce grotesque results and the two languages have a lot of similiarities. And again, if you didn't know both languages and tried to translate from one to the other using that thing, you could and would be in for some real problems.
