My philosophy kind of goes against the usual line of thought here. I belive you should pay every one off in full and then work to clean credit reports. The most diificult problems I had were with citi whom i settled with. If i had paid them in full they would have been easy to deal with.

eddie I am curious. Have you used both your LOC from Amex?? I know several posters have mentioned have more than one line, while others have gotten more than one line, but Amex has closed them. I had 2 lines but never used the second one and then they closed it without any notice. I happened to log in and see my second account was gone.

    Hi Eddie,

I'm in a similar situation....everything is paid off in full (except for one settled for less than the full amount charge-off with Bank of America) but I have a number of derogs that I've been trying to get deleted.

I just started the repair process less than two months ago, and just by disputing everything with the CRAs about 60-75% of the derogs are dropping off.

So I'm happy and I can't complain, but I'm already thinking of phase II.

There are a few tradelines that seem as if they're going to be tougher, as the original creditor is verifying quickly to all 3 (Bank of America, late pays on Ford Motor, Sterling Bank, etc.).

I've been thinking of using Doc's letter threatening legal action for paid collections. I like it a lot a but I'd of course like to take a more pleasant approach if I thought it would work.

What has worked for you in your repair process? Did you take the legal, or threat of legal, route? Was it working with the creditors in a friendly way?

I don't mean to "steal" your thread, but I'd love to have your advice.

    Thanks!

    Missy

I currently have a balance on both loc. I have had no problems whatsoever. Keeping my fingers crossed though.

Missy I did not threaten legal action. The only derogs I had that were not legit fell off about 6 months after i started the process. I disputed the others as not mine over and over again. Also I harrassed the creditors to get them to delete. Unlike others here I would never file suit to remove legit derogs. To close to perjury in my book.....However i am not criticizing others who have done it To each his own.

I used to feel the way you do. But, before I found this site, I offered payment for deletion. I never heard a thing from any of the ca.

Now, that I send out validation letters and such. I get printouts or still no response. What gives????

If the ca would accept payment for deletion, then I would pay all of them without any problem.

But, all they want to do if make your life miserable. I'm sick of having bad credit. I am sick of not being able to take advantage of low interest rates. I am sick of not being considered for a job because of my credit.

It seems to me, the only way I will get my credit cleaned is by playing hardball.

I've gotten more results disputing as not mine than offering payment for deletion.

Of course, you are entitled to your opinion. But, not everyone feels as though you shouldn't pay.

It would be nice if you would contribute because you got info. from this site that assisted you to repair your credit.

But, if you don't stick around there are others, it just seems to me that it would be highly hypocritical of you.

    Missy,

Don't lose hope. I have a feeling Sterling will shut down by the end of the year. They keep downsizing more and more and more. My mom had a charged off Ward's and because they closed down, it got removed within hours of disputing.

    Thanks author_22...

I think I'm going to continue disputing for another few months and then decide next steps.

I agree that there are moral issues with threatening legal action about items that I know are mine. Although it can also be said that there are moral issues with disputing things as "not mine," which is common practice too.

I just think that there are moral issues with the entire system in general. I'm still learning, but it seems that options are actually more limited when accounts are paid or settled than if they are not.

I'm not criticizing anyone for any actions they choose to take, I'm just venting a bit about the overall system. This board is great for many reasons, including not passing judgement on people for the situations they are in.

In the meanwhile, in addition to disputing, I've been working on the positive side of credit repair: writing creditors to get positive tradelines reported to all 3 CRAs, getting signed up as an AU, etc.

Thanks all for the ideas and the help!

    Missy
