I need help. Is it legal for an unpaid late fee on an installment loan to cause the account be reported as 30 days late? I made a payment late but did not include the late fee. The fee aged on the account and was reported as 4 times 30 days past due.

I have since paid the amount and have stirred up trouble with the bank but I see no way out as they will not budge on their reporting.

It isnt fair and doesn't seem legal. Any answers?

Depends, was the payment made after the (30) thirty days?

If you paid the late fee + the next payment due before the 30 days was up then its not legit!

    Thanks for your help.

I definitely made the next payment before the 30 days expired. Even if I did not write two checks for the next month to include the fee, I argued that they should have applied my payment to the oldest balance, which would include the late fee.

This really pisses me off. I spent two years making sure my reports were accurate, transferring from finance companies to banks, making payments on time. After 4 x 30 day lates from late fees in a six month period, I might as well have declared bankruptcy. I just might do that anyway.
