Hello! I certainly appreciate he amount of good information on this board. I need some direction. I will try to be brief. I have a Capital One credit card that I do not use very often. It normally has a very small if any balance on it. In November, just before I left for a business trip to Mexico, I get call from Cap One telling me that they tried to send me a new card but that it was returned because it was the wrong address. I gave them updated address then asked if there was a balance...they said NO. I leave for trip...come back last month and I get a call saying that I''m 33 days past due. I pay immediately and check credit and sure enough, it shows me as late 30-60 days on all three CRA's. I know it's my fault for not checking but how would you go about trying to get this removed? Contact Cap One first and explain the process or just dispute or ? Please any help would be very appreciated. We are going to have to rent a place in a new town soon and this late payment has really hurt my mediocre credit...
I would try working directly with Cap1 first. It would've been better if you requested their help at the time when you made payment, but it won't hurt to contact them again, explain what happened, and see what they can offer. If you've never been late before and they want your continued business, then hopefully they'll be willing to work something out. In the future, be sure to always set up online access to your credit card accounts so you can keep track of them when traveling as well. Then, if you ever have a question about your balance or when a payment is due, you won't have to rely on anyone other than yourself to find out the correct information.
