Hi, I have a question. I have been really good with my credit. No late payments etc. I had a brain fart this month and mailed in a credit card payment 5 days late. What effect will this have on my credit. Will it count as 30 days late? It is cap one.

    Thanks

The only thing that will happen is that Cap one will charge you a late fee. It wont go on your credit report unless it's at least 30 days late.

Late CAN be ONE DAY~~~varies from credit card to credit card.

    1-30=30 days late
    31-60=60 days late
    61-90=90 days late

Most reputable lenders would credit back the late fee upon request, if this was merely a one-time error.

Wait for your payment to post, then call to ask for a credit.

Do not expect to get any limit increases or APR cuts on this card for 6 months.

Some creditors interpret it that way, but it is definitely not a legitimate interpretation of the law. If you get a 30-day -late notation for being only 10 days late, you have every right to dispute it. If they do not remove it then, sue for WILLFUL noncompliance with the FCRA.

I NEVER said it was a CORRECT way to do it...

I think that the $29.00-$35.00 late fee + interest (LOSE FLOAT) should be enough of a PUNISHMENT!!!

    python,

Do you know about paying your bill online with Cap One? Just go to www.capitalone.com and sign up. The payment will post to your account the following business day, and will be available the day after.

What is also nice about this option is as soon as you submit your payment, a rep can see on his/her screen, and as long as you've been good the past 6 months (give or take), they'll reverse the fee for you.
