Late payments on CR

This has probably been asked and I apologize if I missed it but I'm new to the board and I would like to ask this.

A year or so ago I missed an "automated" payment. I lost my job and I was basically 1 payment behind. I got a new job but it took me a couple of months to actually get the loan caught up. Now the loan is paid off and the account closed. The problem I have is the TL shows "pays as agreed" the line says I have 6 late payments over 30 days. Is there a way to get this removed from my CR?

    TIA

You can dispute as "never late" with the CRA's. They can update to never late, or will possibly delete the whole TL if you dispute.

Another option is a goodwill letter the OC.

Thanks tulipchic. As a direct result of being a Newb, I haven't completely gotten through the FAQ yet and should have held my post until I did. I still have a relationship with the bank that has this derog. A fairly strong one. I am going to try the goodwill letter and see if that will do it. It is worth a shot since I have other credit accounts with them.

    Thanks again,

Does this mean that after they reject the goodwill letter you will go back to the CRA or the creditor and say you were never late? That seems backwards to me.

I had a single 30 day late on mine and disputed it with both EQ and Experian as never being late. They both removed it. The on-line dispute was relatively easy.

You might try reversing your approach.

The only problem with disputing with CRA first is the possibility they will delete the entire TL instead of just changing it.
