Is it legal for a Law Firm to send you a letter stating that they can take legal action? Can a company sell your debt to a Law Firm? Who the hell are the lawyers and why are they involved?

A lot of lawyers have debt collection practices. They have in house collectors that attempt to collect and if no luck, depending on the amount, they may file suit. And yes, they can purchase bad debts.
