    #1 - Do you have the name of the company? (If so, and you don't want to send it public, you can private it to me, and I can help find info about them for you.)
    #2 - Nasty and rude is a chief MO for a CA. And illegal, $1,000.00 to you. And if you don't (which it sounds like from your post) have the money to file, you can file IFP (in forma pauperis) to have the court waive your filing fees.
    #3 - Depending on the date that they allegedly served your spouse, i.e. was he served before he passed; if he wasn't served before he passed, you have a defective service on the initial suit. They would have to have within the time for filing claims, filed a claim with his executor, in accordance with your state's probate laws. (Google "state probate")
    #4 - If he was served before passing, they may have a valid judgement, however again, the claim would have had to have been filed with his executor, in accordance with the probate laws.
