What if a collection agency is attempting to collect a debt on an account which bears an incorrect name?
inncorrect name as in not you, or inncorrect as in you changed your name. The CA'a most certainly have other identifying information, SSN, ACCT #'s etc, that correlate to pretty much just one person. Just haveing a different name probably wont do it. Most CRA even lists aliases, such as when you use a middle inital or no, and variations on first names like Eric, Erich, Erick, etc.
After my divorce, the Court granted me my maiden name back. I tried to get the credit card company to change the name on the billing, but they said they could not since the account was opened under the other name. The name I use now is not an alias. It is my legal name and different than the one on the original contract.
Re: Re: Legal Name Change "I have enclosed a copy of the 'COURT ORDER' stating my name has been LEGALLY changed from MARY JONES back to MARY SMITH...I recomend that you follow this COURT ORDER and change my name, or I will have to contact the court and they will be contacting you to DISCUSS THIS MATTER IN THEIR COURT ROOM...I will allow you 30 days to be generous to make the name change...but no more than that...please notify me at my home address in writing that this matter is a done deal, and send me a new card with my new name...THANK YOU...MARY SMITH" CERTIFIED R/R
