Hey Legal Gurus~ If a hospital refers an account to a collection agency, and the collection agency doesn't actually own the debt. (They said 1- we're collecting the debt, we don't own it. & 2- We've been assigned the debt.) Can they report it legally to a CRA. I paid the OC directly and no money was ever given to the CA and yet they marked the account "unpaid". Please advise. SD
If they were assigned the debt, they are allowed to report it. Your dispute is now with the OC. Tell them that you want them to clear this up since you have paid the acct. At the same time, I would ask the CA for validation and then dispute it as "paid before collection" with the CRAs. Good Luck
Is the collection agency allowed to report the debt to CRA if the OC previously reported the debt to CRA for 7 years? Isn't this re-aging?
My question has already been answered perfectly in this thread: http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/showthread.php?goto=newpost&threadid=34849&pgnum=1 Thank you!
