I want to begin my credit clean up by sending dispute letters to the CRA. If they verify than ask for actual paperwork with my signature admitting that I am responsible for the account(s) in mention. If they can show me proof then my next step is to keep disputing or try to work out payment for deletion option? Different sites tell you different things and I'm ready to pull my hair out. I read to not make any payment arrangements unless youv'e disputed at least 3 times. (even if it is your debt). ONE QUESTION: So I date the top of my dispute letter and I have not received any notification from the CRA's by 30 days.....Then what? I am new to this and have been trying to read all of the posts so if anyone can link me, if it has been answered already, would appreciate. Thanx
No, you are getting two different things mixed up. You send verification (also called dispute) letters to the CRA's (credit bureaus). These letters tell them to investigate to be sure the record they have in your file is correct. They have 30 days from the date they receive your dispute to contact the creditor and verify that their information is correct, or else they have to remove the information from your credit file. Then you send validation letters to the actual creditor or collection agency which is saying you owe them money. These are the letters which say "prove this account is mine." Their response does not have a time limit (at least not one specified in the law) but they must cease all efforts to collect the debt until they answer you. So, after a reasonable time has passed (usually 30 days) you send a letter that says "you didn't prove it, so you must remove it." Is that a bit clearer?
Yes. I have some letters that I am getting ready to mail (to the CRA) and one to an actual creditor. I just wanted to be sure that I had all my facts straight. I have been reading different posts and I feel a little hope but yet it seems so funny that this seems so easy to do (I have not done anything yet so I am sure that I may feel differently after I begin the process!). Does anyone know what kinda fico scores you have to have for purchasing a house? I have read over 650 and yet another site, a gentleman that is a morgage dealer says as long as the median is over 558 you can get a loan. Any ideas? Thank you breeze!
