Forget my other questions, help me clear this *one* up!

Opened 12/97 Last activity 5/2000 Date Reported 1/2003??? (Why would the update it in 2003 when last contact with them was in 2001??)

Acct Status: Charge Off $0 balance

This was an account that I had believed to be paid in full--it had been over balance and late and I got a threat to send to collections; I paid and asked that the account be closed (not like they were gonna let me use it anyway). Never saw another piece of mail from them.

We moved in '99 and in 2000 I checked my credit report for the first time (was coming to grips with the damage I had done). A collection was posted. I contacted the creditor listed to get information. Was told I owed $238.xx and referred to credit agency. Credit agency quoted different amount and said OC had no right to quote otherwise. Somehow was referred *Back* to OC. Put in touch with a supervisor, RO, and was told since no mail was received (my mail *was* being forwarded but still nothing from them) it would immediately be called back "in house". I was told to go to my nearest Target store and pay the $238.xx balance in cash for faster posting, referencing my acct number. When the payment posted, a letter would be drafted and sent to all 3 CRAs to mark account paid in full.

5/01 I called to verify this was done. RO verified account was closed, flagged for deletion after payment posted (said payment had been received but it could take up to 45 days) and letter should be received within 30 days and to follow up if no letter by 6/01.

6/01 left message--no return. 7/01, acct still reflected inaccurately, left message with RO--no return. 7/xx/01 left another message, requested acct status, no return call. [NOTE TO SELF AS I TYPE: AM I DUMB OR WHAT?!] 8/01 Another message--At this time call main number and speak to a csr. Ask if RO is still a manager. Was told yes and given mailing address and name spelling.

At this point, being totally overwhelmed, naive, and caught up in life I stop persuing it.

It is still on my acct as a "delinquent" C/L, paid charge off.

I would like to have this changed to "paid as agreed" as I was told.

Is this something that can be goodwilled or do I need to take a more forceful approach? C'mon guys--you have great ideas. Gimme a push in the right direction on this one!

    TIA!
