I recently requested a DV from a utility company in 1998. It's been continually validated and at this point I just want to pay it and get on with my life. The lady that responded was very polite, didn't make any crude remarks, offered to set up a payment plan, etc. It's my opinion I should just pay. That being said-I'd like it to be deleted if at all possible. Does anyone think my humble letter below will do the trick? And do I need to make it stronger? (I am wimpy at times!) 11-10-03 Dear Ms XXXXXX, Thank you for the response to my debt validation letter. I apologize fully for the delay in resolving this matter, I believed this debt had been paid and was only an oversight on the part of XXX Company. It does appear this may be my debt, and I would like to close this matter in a way that is palatable for both of us. I am respectfully asking that you accept my offer of payment in full for deletion of this item from all three of my credit bureaus. Once I receive a response to this offer, I will mail you payment in full in the amount of $251.65. Sincerely, almostther
i like it...simple, your not fulling admitting fault and your asking for a courtesy deletion. i think they'll bite - theyve only got 2 yrs til the SOL is up so this will be their last chance to get their money. good job.
Thanks! The only thing that's got me is that this is past the SOL for AZ and KY I think! The cheapskate in me wants to offer half since there's been ZERO collection activity. But think I am going to send it as is, and thanks again for the review!
if they haven't even tried to collect offer them 1/3 of the original amount. if they don't accept that, offer half. i once settled on a medical collection for 10 cents on the dollar...
I would modify it slightly. After reviewing your information, I remain unsure that this belongs to me. However, as an attempt to resolve this expeditiously and amicably, I will offer $xxx as a full settlement, on the condition this item is deleted from my credit reports and I am supplied with a signed UDF showing this will be done.
