Today I received a letter from an attorney regarding a credit card debt. Should I send a standard validity letter or is there another kind of letter or action I should take. Thank you for any advice.
The letter basically says that the bill has been assigned to the law firm to initiate collection efforts. It also states what will happen if legal action is taken. It gives me 30 days to dispute the validity of the debt. The last sentence states: "This is an attempt to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose." I should have also included in my initial post that I am judgment proof as I am on social security disability and have no assets except for a 1989 car.
Be prepared sap. If the letter is from Wolpoff & Abramson concerning an MBNA account, you've got a nasty road ahead of you. I've been dealing with them for about 1 1/2 years! debtchoked
No it's not from that law firm. I was looking in my records and I found out that my credit card account was bought by a collection agency. They had sent me a letter in January offering me a 50% settlement. I kind of forgot about it and now I guess this attorney represents them. Talk about a few steps removed from the original creditor.
Re: Re: Letter from Attorney re Bill I just got one of those 50% letters from Midland Credit Management for an old Providian acct that is past the SOL for collection. I'm going to write them and politely let them know they broke the law by re-aging the account. It was charged off in late 1997 and Midland's TL says it was opened in 2003.
