I have been in a battle w/BofA reagarding a TL which shows a different DOLA on all 3 CRAs. I have gotten nowhere with CRAs & BofA, so I did a PFB. This is the reply I received.

    Dear Otto:

Thank you for your inquiry addressed to PFB. Your letter has been forwarded to me and I appreciate the opportunity to respond on behalf of BofA.

As I understand this matter, you have copies of your credit report from three different credit agencies showing different last activity dates. You are requesting to know what listing is correct and when did the credit reporting agencies verify their information.

The credit reporting agencies report different dates based on their own criteria. They may choose your last payment date, last date of deliquency, last update of a dispute, etc. Your account had a dispute filed and the bank responded in May 2003, thus explaining the report showing last activity date of 5/03. The other dates were before the account was sold to another creditor in 1998.

Per bank records I do not show where your information was verified by a credit agency. Every month, Bank of America sends a record of all accounts and their activity to the four major reporting agencies. Although this information is provided monthly, the agencies update per their policies.

Otto, should you have any other questions regarding this matter please don't hesitate to contact me.

    Sincerely

    Clueless Individual

I got a few different things from this letter:
    1. This person has no clue about what they are reporting and how it shows on a report.
    2. The account was SOLD in 1998 and should have a DOLA of 98 or earlier.
    3. Despite what the CRAs say, they have not actually contacted BofA for verification and that is GREAT ammunition.

I am interested in finding out cnet opinions & thoughts on what I should do next.

Why they say they report to 4 major agencies? Are they only three?
