After a little bit of haggling and pleading for compassion (yes, I did!), I actually got a CA to agree in writing to notify the CRAs to delete the negative tradeline completely. I did owe the debt, acknowledged it, explained why it was in arrears and that I was looking toward the future and recognize how a negative item such as that could affect my chances of obtaining a favorable mortgage. Interestingly enough I had written to the CA last year advising them that I refused to deal with them and that I would deal directly with the original creditor (based on advice from another web site.) Well, he tried to use this against me, but I thought quickly and advised it was only to simplify the process given that I had a dispute with the original creditor and insurance company (hospital bill). Anyway, so I now have this letter from the CA. However, a few days before I got this letter, EQU completed the investigation process and reported the debt as still unpaid (at that time it was). My question is should I request a re-investigation and provide a copy of this letter as proof of the inaccuracy or wait until the CA contacts the CRAs with a request to remove like they said they would in writing ( or am I being naive)? I don't want the CRA to just update the record as "paid" but rather to remove it entirely. I hope this isn't a stupid question. Thanks.
