I just received a letter today from a collection agency, and started to cry. The letter claims I owe $663.00, and the original creditor is my primary clinic, so it looks like the debt is for a medical bill. I have no idea how I could have over $600 in medical bills, as I have EXCELLENT insurance (my family max out of pocket is $600 for the year). I pay my coinsurance bills to the clinic very promptly, so I have no clue where this came from. I guess I started crying because I'm trying so hard to clean up past messes on mine and my fiances CRs and get CCs paid off that this was that last straw that cause me to break down. It feels nice to know I found a group of people I can get advice from who understand where I'm coming from. So now, my question, do I send Scumbag Collections a validation letter or a dispute letter? I'm still new as to which letters apply to whom and when. Thanks!! BTW, I filed online disputes with all three CRAs for both of our CRs on 9/24, and I'll be sure to keep everyone updated on the results. I started with the old (6 yrs.) unpaid collection accounts. I still need to write Experian to get a bunch of bogus addresses off my CR.
did you contact your primary clinic to see what happened? I had TONS of issues with billing errors by the OC and without even knowing they turned the account to collections... First off see if its a mistake in billing..... medical collections SUCK
just a quick warning since this medical bill was sent to collections they people you talk to may not even want to deal with you anymore. Be persistant and try to figure out what went wrong you should be on a good high ground if you know you were or should of been covered by your insurance....
