I got a letter from the Credit Store about an OLD debt that was charged off and has now fallen off my credit reports. The letter states the amount owed and has the attempt to collect a debt, but no 30 days to request the info. On the back it states that SOL has lasped and if included in BK to ignore. Should I also ignore or demand validation?
I'd make sure it's completely off your credit report(s)???? It may be showing up on one that's triggering them to inquire. They are EX and TU heavy. They allowe me to trans an old debt to their card and i paid it off in about 4 months, Disputed the old acct and it was removed. If you're debt is beyond the 7 year period i would "FORGETABOUTIT"
I would validate. At least 3 of us on this board have sent validation and had credit store send letters saying they have no records. You may want to ignore it if it isn't on one of your reports, but I would only be concerned that if you do not respond with validation that they will try to put it on one of your reports later and you will have to fight it off.
Thanks.....it is off all 3 reports and past 7 years old as well. I think I will ask for validation, just to cover my tracks and to have a paper trail....just in case.
Past 7 years? why would you validate? Asset Acceptance continued to try this with me, They knew the debt was 10 yrs old, still sent me letters trying to get money. This is what Assest Acceptance told me Dear Sir eventhough your debt is past the SOL and beyond 7 years we can't sue you, but you morally still owe the Debt. It took 2 phone calls and me finally sending a Nasty/Cease communication letter. It''s funny that there are CA's that monitor and have a list of consumers who debts are falling past or have fallen past the 7yr mark, they buy the paper and attempt to collect from the debtor. Imagine the people who have no idea about the laws or don't have a forum or outlet such as this Awesome one to educate you. These companies i'm sure still collect a pretty good percentage i'm sure, and actually I know Asset is one of them based on my experience, and hearing your story The Credit Store engages as well.
I did wonder how they got this information, since it is past the 7 years, close to 10 now. Actually in one of those moods right now, where calling their number and recording what they say could be "fun."
Just send them a validation like Kit said, do not bother calling them, keep all communication via mail. Goodluck
