December 23, 2001 Chase MasterCard Credit Bureau Update Dept. VIA FACSIMILE (xxx) xxx-xxxx Re: Account # xxxx Dear Sirs: I am writing to dispute the account information you submitted to the CRAs in the last 2 months. I have already initiated a dispute through the credit bureaus, and was advised that you verified the incorrect information. On March 9, 2001 your affiliate, Chase Rewards, charged $79.99 to my account for an unsolicited item, but withdrew the charge on March 21,2001. When I inquired of customer service, the representative advised that you would not report the incorrect high balance because it was due to your affiliateâ??s error. According to the credit reports I obtained online yesterday, you verified the $2006 amount when my balance never exceeded $1953, which was in January of this year. If you believe the $2006 amount to be correct, please furnish me with the proof. FCRA Section 623(a)(2) requires that you report only accurate information about your experience with me, and to rectify errors immediately. Please do so and notify me in writing when this is completed. Sincerely, xxxx
Rina, here's a tidbit of information that I hope will help. Chase maintains a department whose job it is to carefully consider disputes like the one you posted above. My understanding is that this department will be far more likely to give your arguments a fair hearing than, say, the first- and second-tier customer service staff. Even better, they have the power to revise the tradelines quickly since that's their primary function. Here's the address: Credit Updates Dept. 4915 Independence Parkway 1st Floor Tampa, FL 33634 You can also fax them the letter at this number: 1-813-880-6081 For what it's worth, I've had success with Citibank's parallel department (and I'll post that address and fax number if it's relevant to something someone needs -- just let me know). Doc
Doc, Just want to thank for the amazing job you have been doing here for us. Where else can you find this kind of information without having to pay for it. You are a gem to us. Keep up the good work.
PyschDoc did you get my email. Please post the info for Citi please. Will they handle a dispute I have regarding my Universal card?
Doc, Thanks a bunch; I only had the fax#, which the CSR told me is sufficient. I'll send it via regular mail also.
Mel, I did get your mail, and I'm behind in email. Now, you've caught me playing off and on today on Creditnet while my email languishes. I'm busted, LOL. In your email you asked for the reconsideration number because your recent application for a new card was turned down due to an old chargeoff. I may be mistaken, but you're going to have a tough time with them if you have a chargeoff. (I'd actually be happy if I was wrong. Would someone with a previous Citi chargeoff who subsequently acquired a new card please post details?) Regardless, here's the reconsideration number: 1-301-733-5501 On the other hand, here's the address and fax number for the department which will consider your plea that they revise your credit reports: Citibank Credit Bureau Disputes P.O. Box 6241 Sioux Falls, SD 57117 Here's their fax number: 1-605-330-6780 I had a 60-day and a 90-day late notation with a Citibank VISA in 1999 when I was destroying my credit by being late with everything. (Completing a doctoral dissertation will do that if you're not very organized, lol.) On that basis (and because I was very late with everything else, as their account review soft inquiries revealed), they canceled my card in short order. This year I had to jump through hoops in order to get approved. If I'd had a chargeoff, though, I have serious doubts that I would have been approved for a new card. I did fax a letter to the Credit Bureau Disputes department this year, and they were nice enough to remove the old tradeline entirely from all three CRA files. I hope some of this information helps, Mel! And... sorry again about the email. Doc
Doggonit, gad, thank you, that felt good to hear. Incidentally, this was very different from the usual "get the heck outta here, you silly pest" comments to which I had become accustomed. Being somewhat of an interpersonal masochist (although I confess that kinkiness does NOT extend to more intimate moments, lol), perhaps I can look forward to more of the negative comments in short order.
