Levy against personal property - How will it affect Credit?

Yesterday I received a Levy Against Personal Property from my county for a Vehicle Property Tax bill I forgot to pay. Due to my error, I put it aside not knowing it was due. Im planning on paying it today, but if I didnt, the Sheriff has the right to tow my vehicle and sell it at auction to make up the tax!

This was a bit of a shock because the bill is 90 days late, and I've heard of people being a year late on property tax and getting nothing but a late fee.

I've never had this happen and have a FICO in the mid 700s. Does anyone know the extent of damage this will have on my credit?

Also, is there anything I can do to soften the blow or stop it from being on public record?

    Thanks for any help!
