Greetings to everyone. Especially those who have helped me rebuild my credit since I found this board by accident. Today, I requested and received a $3,000 increase in my credit union LOC. My limit was $2,000. Now it is $5,000. All it took was one hard inquiry on Experian ( my clean report ). I opened the LOC in 9/2001. I also, cancelled my $ 3,000 Providian gold card today. I was lucky to get the Providian card in 1/2001 as my credit was beyond awful at the time. Seven (7) visa and m/c accounts remain open. Along with 1 LOC and 4 department store cards and 1 auto loan. I have too much revolving credit and too many accounts. I am transferring my $1,500 Capital One balance to the LOC. Later, I will PlanetFeedback to the Capital One Exec office and request an accross the board 8.9% fixed rate. This is a reduction from my 9.9% purchase and B/T rate and my 19.8% cash rate. GM card and Nextcard are both candidates for closure depending on what happens with these accounts in the next several months. I am a candidate for limit increases at Capital One and Target visa in the upcoming months. MY Credit Expert score is 712. The nice girl at the Credit Union showed me my actual 743 EX score when she pulled my credit. This is the second time that I have been able to see the 2 scores. The prior time, my CE score was 701 and EX was 728. In both cases, I noted that the "CE simulator score" was about the same as my real score from the credit union. I do not want to infer to much from just these 2 experiences of mine but possibly the simulator represents a "credit card scoring model" vs. an auto or home mortgage model. Just possibly. There is nothing certain here. If I had not located this board, my credit would be nowhere as good as it is today. I still have to serve 3 years and 9 months on my BK sentence. Thanks all.. Best regards, Jim
JIM - you are doing GREAT! What a great bunch of scores! You are like me just waiting for the BKs to fall off - then I will be about 800 immediately - obviously you will too! Great job at the credit union - $5000 is a USEFUL LOC as well! I always enjoy your posts and seeing you are doing fine best regards - dogman
Thanks Dogman, You have been a real gentleman here on the board. I have always enjoyed your posts also. It's great that you are still sticking around the board as some new members with a BK are bound to show up and need some help from you. Also, you should update us on your progress. The LOC has a 10.2% apr. I only asked for a modest $3K increase as the gals handling the loan requests at the CU have been there for years and one in particular remembers what my EX report used to look like. LOL Fortunately she likes me so nothing is ever said. MY EQ and TU reports still have 2 discharged BK accounts on them each. But no public record of the BK. My chance of getting these accounts off before they hit the 7 year mark is very low. Sticking to facts, I confirmed a few months ago that I am on the "Blacklist" with AMEX, Chase and Citibank... Chase and Citibank, I don't care about. I should not care about AMEX but their cards are handsome and I do envy you a little about your AMEX card that you earned back by paying the amount owed. When I cancelled Providian today, I thought about your cancellation thread from some time ago. You were and are correct. - Customers like us will always be considered subprime in their eyes. I considered offering to sell my Providian card to GEORGE for 2 FICO points but I know GEORGE would feel that the value of a Providian card is not worth 2 points. LOL Best regards, Jim
Hey Jim, As I have said before, you've done a great job getting cleaned up! As far as you last couple negatives go, why don't you just wait a couple months, and then do an online dispute. It doesn't cost and you never know. It may come off on the 4th or 5th dispute. I had several that refused to come off, but finally, on the 3rd or 4th dispute, adios. Give it a shot. It can't hurt. I got that stupid Gulf State removed yesterday for the final time. lol They just can't win with me. It is finally cloaked from the system, never to reappear. My reports were 100 % negative free until this reappeared, but is again clean. In the last couple of months I have finally gotten some cards with decent lines. I got the 2 aa cards (bdd) and combined for the plat. select. I also got the target visa, household gold, and a decent increase on my cap 1 gold, along with several apr reductions. FINALLY!! Are we going to see you in Vegas? It's gonna be fun. Take care, LKH
Congrats Jim!!! You've done a great job rebuilding. When getting that Cap1 increase do this: 1. Use the system (300 likely) 2. Ask for a supervisor... see what you can get 3. Use retention if necessary, then a ret supervisor 4. Then Planetfeedback... You'll likely get 1k with the first 3 and then another 2k or so with the Exec dept. Your scores are prime and they don't care about the bk. the 8.9 fixed across the board is easy. they'll give you a no hassle. congrats again
Can you suggest a list of BK friendly card companies. I have FCNB, Cap 1, Target, CU card, Providian?
Jim Not that you need it anymore... but I did find out that UMB Bank (Quiktrip) is bk friendly. Got a card without needing a manual review and got 400. For a gas card that's plenty and I use them the most anyway. Funny, even with the bk showing the cards I use have better terms than most of my "all prime" friends terms. amazing what knowledge and tenacity can do for you.
Yes. - Nordstrom - Telephone them about your situation. Don't apply on-line. Continue to work with your Credit Union. Best regards, Jim
Jim, First, congrats on your success. Second, thanks for highlighting the benefits of working with a credit union. Because they are smaller than a national bank and they usually will look beyond a credit score to your entire credit report as well as other documentation you provide, credit unions are great for everyone (from people with stellar credit to those looking to build or re-build credit). Also you get to talk to a real person face-to-face and establish a banking relationship. In addition, at least at my credit union, the rates are consistently better than the major banks. My Visa Gold has a rate of 9.9% fixed; I have a signature LOC at 8% fixed; my car loan for a used car is 6.5%. I didn't even apply for the Visa and the Signature Loan. When I applied for the car loan, the loan officer said that she could approve me for the Visa and Signature Loan, if I wanted them. I said why not. Credit Unions are great. If you are eligible to join one, do.
Hi LKH !! Ignore you - Never. - I actually posted to you yesterday. Then I went to edit my post. I must have inadvertantly deleted it. Thanks for your advice and I will dispute my total of 4 negative accounts. Probably next C.H.O.D. I can't make Vegas due a family matter. But I certainly hope you all have a good time. Take some pictures to post on the board. BTW - Thanks for your friendship here on the board over the last year. We have both upgraded our credit substantially since we met in chat. Best regards, Jim
