I just received an email from Chase, regarding the status of my application for the platinum MC (which, by the way, was an "invitation to apply" I got in the mail). After 2 reconsiderations, I was finally approved for $500! Yay! ACK!! I just closed Crap 1, also with a limit of $500 (or $489, according to my CRs). What do I do? Do I keep this card, and have it "grow" to a decent limit? Is this Chase card worth it? I've since gotten Amex Blue, GM Platinum, Corvette MC, and BofA Platinum - all with much better limits/terms.
I have had nothing but problems with Chase. They are the worst. In opinion, it definately isn't worth the hassle to keep it.
Since you've already gotten approved and the inquiry is done, why not just take the card and use it once in a while, try to get the CL raised. If there's no fee, just take it?
I don't know if I've been approved for their platinum, gold or regular. I guess you're right - I have the inquiry (probably 2 with the reconsiderations) anyhow. Maybe I'll use it for the occasional purchase at the cosmetics counter...
They are the pits.. I have a Chase "Platinum" with a CL of $1,200 - it was $1,500 however when I requested an increase they cut it back instead - their Customer Service Department is staffed by retards, they will jack up your rate as soon as they can, and apart from helping your utilization rate are a total waste of time.... Once you get the card, call to activate, but donâ??t. Tell them you were planning on using this card for a BT, but the limit you got just isnâ??t enough to cover anything. They doubled mine from $2k to $4k instantly. Itâ??s worth a try.
Re: Re: LOL! Chase is funny... I don't understand why only $500, when I got approved for more with other prime cards, without needing reconsideration. Is Chase that difficult to get approval from? Like I posted earlier, I will probably be an authorized user on my BF's card when we get married, so they're stuck with me regardless
Re: Re: LOL! Chase is funny... For me, Chase was terrible to get approval from. I had an unsecured line of credit, but when I applied for a credit card from a "preapproved" offer, they sent me a card with a lot lower limit and much higher rate. Of course, the "preapproval" was because of my great record with them and because I was a wonderful customer. Since they wouldn't work with me to change the CL or APR, I canceled my other Chase card AND my line of credit. So it cost them two accounts. I won't willingly deal with them again.

Re: Re: Re: LOL! Chase is funny... That's exactly how I feel about Fleet, but since Bank of America is taking over, I thought it would be worth keeping my accounts open.
I have 2 cards with Chase that started very low like that one....now they are both at 5k CL. Plus I called for interest rate reduction and they reduced from 12.99 to 7.24% just cause I asked. I have a mortgage and one car financed thru them too. I like that I can view all my accounts on the one website they have and pay them all online off that one website. I've had my accounts for years with Chase and I have had no troubles with them at all. In fact they have been good to us. I don't understand everyone bashing them cause I have had positive experiences with them all along. Just got our new car at 1.9% too thru them. And since you already have approval then I would just keep the card and use it for small purchases and pay it in full each month. Then call them up and ask for a CL increase. I've found Chase to be really good at granting new credit to existing customers as I just got my Chase perfectcard thru them and got a 4k CL too. Having a good payment history can help you get more.
I was a 3+ year customer... "JACKED" interest because of a BOGUS 30 day late DENIED UNIVERSAL ENTERTAINMENT card because of the BOGUS 30 day late RECONSIDER application W/O inquiry..."NO" then forget it!!! SECOND HARD ANYWAY and no 2nd account... MINE CLOSED!!! HERS PAID OFF AND IN THE SOCKDRAWER!!!
That's too bad you've had a bad experience with Chase. I've not had any of the experiences you talk about and I'll continue to use my Chase cards with Pleasure.
...or "IF" this credit limit is 80% LOWER THAN YOUR LOWEST CREDIT LIMIT...you can use the phrase-->"TOY CARD"
The reason I'M NOT HAPPY WITH THEM is because even though they ADMITTED THEIR NUMEROUS MISTAKES...they didn't want to save the business!!! LIKE THEY DIDN'T CARE!!!
FWIW I LOVE chase they have had the best CS and the first card I got was an 800$ plat, and almost cancelled it, then aaplied for stockback card and got 10,000cl and then waited 2 months closed stockback and have 10,800 on my plat. They gave me go to 6.99 after my 0% for 18 months ends. I may be biased though because I always call direct to their supervisors line
Close the card and, as Butch once said, request the statement in your report to say "Closed by consumer for INSUFFICIENT credit limit" ...
