There was a post on here that I used to refer my friends to that listed strategies for obtaining an 800, but I can't seem to find it now. Does anybody have the link saved somewhere?

Also, what's up with the search?

    =/

    Thanks!

    or this.....

Between four and six revolving accounts (meaning credit cards).
At least one "installment" tradeline (e.g., a mortgage or auto loan) in good standing.
A few accounts around 20 years old and a long history of positive use. (To get into the 800 FICO range, you need 10 years of positive account history.)
Around 30 years of credit use.
No late payments (or other account blunders) for at least the past seven years.
Very few credit inquiries (no more than one to three in a six-month period).
No derogatory notations -- collections, bankruptcies, jaywalking tickets. (Just kidding on that last one).
Debt levels on credit accounts of less than 35% of their overall credit limit.

I just checked my FICO tonight and it finally hit over 800 (801 to be exact). This is the highest its ever been for me.

I was a bit perplexed to read that you need 30+ years of credit. I'm only 36 so there is no way that I've had credit for that long.

My first credit card was at the age of 19 when I was in college (I think it was in 1988 or so -- which means my credit history is only 17 years long).

I do have met all the other criteria however: no lates in the last 7 years, recent mortgage, low % use on credit limit.

    Congratulations!!

And no one knows EXACTLY what's required. It's an algorithm that takes everything into account. I don't think you necessarily need 30 years of history, or who came up with that.
