How do I go about disputing this? In June of this year a state tax lien showed up on my credit report. It said I owed $4,169. I called and found out that this was for a business I opened up in '07, but never made anything at all of it. When I talked to the state people and told them that I never made a dime they said then all have to do is write a letter to them saying the business never became anything and that I only owe $69 for the lien fee. I said ok then how did they come up with the $4,169 number. They told me it's just a estimate they used. So now I only owe $69 dollars, but they have this false information on my credit report that says I owe $4,169. I can care less about paying $69, but I want that lien off my CR asap. Please help me for the best way about doing this. I didn't pay the $69 yet. Thanks for all of y'all help and input. J

Officially file with your state's DOR for removal of the lien and then use the documentation you receive to dispute it with the CRAs as well.
