Just wondering the best way to go about (trying) to get Cap1 to lower my interest rate (15.51% current, spotless history, no CR baddies). Should I PFB Eugene Cook first or just try and play CS roulette and see where that gets me?
See what you get from CUSTOMER SERVICE... Then 2-3 months later try PFB... I have CAPITAL ONE 5.90% FIXED BT/PURCHASES...(not sure it is available to the general public...might be a "UYGF" CLUB SPECIAL)
5.9% is a UYGF special. Lowest Cap. 1 will go is 8.9% or so I've heard. Anyone else EXCEPT George that has a Cap. 1 card with a rate lower than 8.9% Purchase APR???? Please do tell and share with the board.
Cap One retention: 1-800-899-9939. http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/showthread.php?threadid=21337 Then try Mr. Cooke via Capital One at www.planetfeedback.com.
Re: Re: Lower Cap1 rate...who should I bug? Wife 7.90%...but I paid that off because it is TOO HIGH...
Re: Re: Lower Cap1 rate...who should I bug? I sent a letter to Cap1 via PFB asking for a credit line increase. It took them nearly two weeks to respond, and the response was that it would take them another two weeks to respond to my letter. I'm really annoyed with them because they won't up my credit limit from $325 on my existing credit card, yet they send me offers in the mail saying that I have been "pre-approved" for a $5,000 credit line because I have been such a great customer. WTF? Hopefully PFB works. My Dad recently met a gal who works high up in Cap1 and she told him that the default rates on their sub-prime cards have sky rocketed as of late. So don't expect too many special favors.
the thing that ALWAYS works for me is the old "i just got a better credit card offer in the mail and they are giving me X rate and X credit line... i really would like to stay with you but since you are not working with me, i see no reason why..." that ALWAYS works... it works best if you have no recent lates and your balance is less than 10% (the closer to 0 the better because they think you will seriously close the account). the customer service dept will always act like they don't care and say something like : "ok... well, maybe you should close your account and go with that other company..." the retention office is where they send you when you want to close the account and they have the power to change your rate... they are usually the ones who listen to your bantering and try to beg you to stay... i once had a credit card lower my apr from a HORRIBLE 29.9% (they snuck that in behind my back!!!!) to 12% (the biggest point reduction i have ever heard of). i will be calling them soon to lower it further... anyway, as a word of caution, you may want to be a little cautious if you are worried about losing the card... i have never heard of them saying "ok... so close it." without an offer, though, but if you are worried, don;'t chance it... hope this helps!!! -----atiYana!!! 600-700 member lowest---679 highest---739
