Thought it might be helpful if people could post experiences with getting cc issuers to lower APRs on their cards. What is the lowest APR that you have managed to negotiate on each of your cards? Which card and from which bank (i.e., Citibank Plat. Select, etc.).

So far, my experience has been:

    Citibank Plat. Select 11.9 fixed
    Citibank AA Card 14.4 variable
    Orchard 15.9 fixed
    MBNA 11.99 fixed
    ATT Universal 10.49 variable
    Nextcard 9.99 fixed

All of these negotiated except Nextcard and ATT.

Hey credit works.. would you please share some information on getting your APR's down to such good rates? My highest regular rate (in use) right now is 9.9%, I am grateful.. but your rates look better.

    Thanks
    Cherie

Charge and pay alot. Thats the key. If you can charge and pay like $2000 per month for several months in a row, "excercising" your credit, you'll become more desirable.

With citibank its imporant to pay 5-6 times the min payment per month.

My Citibank Div. Plat. select (not the student one) is prime plus 3.9%

I got this lowered through Planet Feedback.

No luck with other cards yet.

Citibank, negotiated to prime+2.9 down from prime+7.9 (currently in BT for 3.9%)

Capital One, negotiated to 9.9 fixed down from 19.8 fixed

My other cards have not been negotiated with yet, wrt aprs, but they are:

AmEx Blue 0% to June 2002, then 9.9 fixed go to

Chase, 2.9% to March 2002, then 18.9 fixed go to

BofA, 8.9% to January 2002, then 18.9 fixed go to

If Chase and BofA do not significantly drop my go to purchase rate after the promotions expire, I will only use them to pay in full and then close the accounts after they age one year.

Do you think I should write to BofA via planet feedback, call them, or do nothing but wait as ar as getting a new BT offer from them?

As Sam mentioned exercising my credit has gotten me lower rates and higher limits. Is no trick, it just takes patience and discipline.
BTW, I have the prime +0 offer from BofA also.

I would suggest you start paying down BT balances before they expire and stop applying for any more credit
