I made the mistake of applying for a Macy's card and got denied. I called them and was told I had a delinquent account in their system and that was the reason for the denial. The gal said they mailed me a letter about it on 8/23. I didn't even remember this account and am very shocked that there was a balance as I hardly used it. In any case, the last time I used it was in early 1993 at the latest. The letter still hasn't come and I'm wondering, can they put this on my credit report NOW? I am guessing that it fell off last year but can't be sure since I only saw my report for the first time this past April.
If you're applying to Macy's, they have their own internal records which may not expire after 7 years. The 7 year limitation applies only to information that is shared via the reporting agencies. Some creditors have blacklists and deny you credit until you pay them back, or perhaps even after you pay them back. I doubt if Macy's is very strict, but they may want to be paid back before offering you any new credit.
