Got instant approval yesterday. What's their usual starting CL? Is there a max that you know of? TIA.
Several years ago when I used to have a Macys acct. the limit was 1,000 and stayed at that level, but I didnt used it very much so it was sufficient.
I got one 2 years post BK Ch7 with a $700 CL (sorry, don't know what my score was back in '00). They pulled EXP.
If you got instant approval, your limit is probably $100. I'm not kidding. Macy's will increase your limit after you make a purchase and pay it, etc. They do this for security reasons I guess. Do a search on Macy's and credit increases. You'll find lots of interesting info! ;-)
Also, I don't know what the max is for their credit card. My limit is like $2300 or $2500? (I forget). My friend's is $3k.
Gee, I hope it's not 100 bucks. I charged $61, so my UR would be 61% right off the bat. I don't plan on paying them any interest, but how soon/often do they increase the CL? Thanks for the info!
I've seen a few different scenerios with Macy's. One being that most people get a $100 limit when they do instant credit. Half the time they don't even know it's $100 unless they try to charge over that their first day. That's when they are notified by CS. Next is after making you first purchase (under $100) and paying payments or paying it off, they will automatically raise it (to what I don't know, maybe $300 or $500?). This next one is my favorite and that involves after establishing your account (maybe 4 months down the line) calling CS to inquire about a line increase (w/o hard inquiry of course). The key there is to give them a good reason why you need the increase. In my experience, the more elaborate and important the reason, the better (i.e. I just got a new job and need to buy 5 business suits ASAP...company will reimburse me in a few weeks). I have used several excuses to get an increase and every time they had NO PROBLEM. I was polite, nice, and I made sure to sound real excited about my reason for needing an increase. I've never been denied an increase. I went from having a $300 limit in 92 to my account being closed by them in early 99 due to delinquancy to my account being reopened in late 2000 (after BEGGING and following the reps directions on what I had to take care of some things on my credit report, then faxing her proof) with a $200 limit (I only asked for $100!) to my limit being somewhere around $2300-2500 today. Only one time did I get an increase (purposely went over my limit at the register to see what would happen and that resulted in them raising my limit right then and there) and actually use it. The other times where to help out on debt to balance ratios.
Why not? What's the worst they can do, say no? I figured hell...it was Valentine's Day, I was making a purchase for my OAOA....would they dare make me look like a fool at the register? They didn't...they simply asked for my DL # and that was it. I called the next day to see what my limit was and it was $500 (from $200). This occured 4 months after my account was reopened! I love Macy's....
The worst in my mind, though unlikely, is it gets denied & shows up on the credit report as having gone OTL.
My Macy's account was opened 12/2000, limit was $100. Got many increases since. 16 months later, my credit line with Macy's was raised to $3,000. Saar
It's here! I got 2 pieces of mail today - 1 containing the bill, the other containing the card. The online Credit services just provided the statement, no CL info either. I called the automated number & guess what? $1500!!! A lot more than I expected, but I'm too cheap to ever max this card
