    Hi all,

Here's an FYI for Motley Fool subscribers taking advantage of those Fool perks, such as free magazine trials.

I signed up for 4 free issues of US News & World Report, with the understanding that if I wanted to continue to receive the issues, to send in the invoice. I've done this with IBD and Wall Street Journal with no problems. Well, I wasn't impressed with USN&WR - so I ignored their letters, just like the previous magazines.

Two days ago, a collection agency wrote me that they were collecting a debt for $15.00 that I owed to US News and World Report and stating that if I did not pay, I'd be subject to a judgement(!). I called USN&WR, told them I would sue them for any activity that the collection agency put on my report and the lady cleared my account out of their database. She said she would call the collection agency and have them remove me from their database. USN&WR is supposed to send me a letter stating that I owe them nothing by next week.

I never knew that a magazine could send your account to collections. I just thought it was understood that if you didn't return the invoice, that the subscription was cancelled - especially if you signed up for a trial subscription.

Is there anyway, if after I get my letter from USN&WR, I could send a validation to the CA and test my prowess in small claims? If so, this would be a good test case for me.

    Thanks,
