I was just calling amex to cancel my blue cash card and have my starwood CL combined with it, I called 4 times and everytime got someone who barely spoke english, getting frustrated and still having accomplished nothing I came on CN.com and looked up AMEX retention, I have been a card member since 02 with my student card maybe they can help me, so I call and say I want to close my blue cash and combine it with my starwood equaling 4000, the lady puts me on hold and says no problem, she comes back and says you know the student blue you cancelled in 02 with a CL of 2700, well we can combine that too, so my new starwood CL is 6700!! I was so excited I think I scared her. My highest cl before was 3000. Without that amex retention number I probably would have ended up cancelling my cards, yes all of them Best thing about retention is they picked up right away too, no button presses at all!(except to dial the number Thanks again MARCI!
couldn't have done it without all of the great resources on this board(and the people that fight with csrs to obtain the info)
First off, congrats with your success. Second, I agree - Marci is awesome. Thanks to her I got my Prime+1.9 back on my universal card and got MBNA to go to 7.9 fixed. Last, creditnet is totally awesome. This site rocks. Thanks all. Willis
wow, I called today just to make sure they did it right and they raised my CL to 9350 instead of 6700, that is triple my highest CL and from AMEX nonetheless.
Sweet man! I wish I had some of your good fortune dealing with this stuff. Ever since I found this forum, I have had nothing but trouble with my credit reports. Not because of the forum, it just happened that way. To be honest I can't figure out why my scores have tanked so badly. The two that were over 730 (EX and EQ) have tanked and the one that was stuck at 680 (TU) is now 718. Go figure. Anyway, enough of my rambling......congrats!
Thanks! I just realized though I have some work to do on the aprs, all of them are above 12%, so...either a new card with lower apr or let them age and call retention. (what to do, what to do?)
Thanks for asking! It is fun, though I am still mentally getting used to the fact that this baby is MINE, with all the rights and responsibilities. Scary sometimes... All in all, I am glad I made the purchase.
Cool, I cannot wait to be in your shoes. In fact I may be moving to your town (ATL). But, that all depends on job market and when I finish this degree. So, I will have a ton of questions for you as I get closer to house hunting. Willis
Re: Re: MARCI you are awesome! You will be ... in no time at all! I don't live in ATL unfortunately, but I am from the south. A person named "allen" who posts here and on www.creditboards.com is in Atlanta and is currently house hunting. You may want to ask him about ATL neighborhoods. Also, Private Message "Marie" on www.creditboards.com. I will be happy to help in any way I can re financing/negotiating, but I am by no means an expert. The place to really start reading and asking questions is to "Fla-Tan" and "WillTygart" on: http://www.creditboards.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=9 These men know what they are doing and they can help you avoid pitfalls. Read all the archived posts there, too. Lot's of great info... Congrats on the degree and I wish you the best wrt tackling this job market!
