Hello everyone, I have a friend whoâ??s married and has a good, long credit history. Her husband has NO credit history at all. They found a letter online: http://credit.about.com/library/bl/blLtr_Merg.htm

This letter is a request to have her file merged with his. How long does it take for the the files to merge?

Also does anyone know the fax numbers for the CRAâ??s for this type of request or is best to just mail to the main addresses?

    Thanks!

If I were her, I wouldn't merge their files, I'd simply make him an authorized user on maybe 2 accounts. He'll gain her entire history for the accounts she adds him too.

That would be the easy route but they want all of her good history to show up on his reports, since he has no credit at all. Like the link says, they can be unmerged later.

I can't seem to find any fax numbers or addresses on experian. Anyone?

I don't know where this information came from. Don't believe everything you read on the net.

I have never heard of "merging" files. As faztcobra said, she can make him an authorized user and he'll pick up the history.

Well I don't think it can hurt if they get what they want. AU's only add the history of that one account. My friends husband has NO credit at all. Having 1 or 2 AU accounts will turn his no credit into a 700+ FICO but won't be as strong when reviewed by a human for certain types of loans.

If you do a search on this site you'll see other people mentioning how this happened to them.

Anyway after they get their results I'll post here and let you know what the outcome is.

If it's manually reviewed, it may quickly become apparent that it's not all his history, especially if they're applying jointly and the same accounts appear on both reports, both as "individual account."

We'll see how it works out for them.
