Mastercard and Visa

I have both of the above cards, plus AMEX cash-back (my primary card).

From the standpoint of acceptability, is it safe to carry only one of Mastercard and Visa (the one I use everyday) as a backup to AMEX, and leave the other in my drawer as a backup?

I would like to get down to carrying only two cards (AMEX and either Mastercard or Visa) IF Mastercard and Visa are pretty much duplicate coverage in terms of where they are accepted.

Any opinions, or do you need to carry both Mastercard and Visa?

There is no reason to carry both.
I have only found one instance where Mastercard was not accepted and Visa was.
There are some internet porn sites that don't accept Mastercard. Go figure.

I'd only carry one, but switch them every so often so you keep activity on both.

Thanks for the advice! Actually, I do have a use for the third card in the drawer, so to speak (the Visa, it looks like, since it is only a 1% card and the other two are higher). I can put large purchases, like $3200 on furniture, on the third card, to keep these large amounts off of the other two 'everyday' cards. It will also keep the third card active, at least two or three times a year.
