I always thought when you receive a offer from a credit card company, the inquiry showed as soft and didn't count against your score. Can someone explain this?

Only dumb questions are those not asked. Those should be based on Promotional pulls (minimum info), and then if you apply a hard could occur.

Did someone pull a hard for an offer that you have not accepted?

Actually a friend got denied for a CC because of too many inquiries but never applied for anything (for example cap1 6 times) etc. Over 30 inquiries since the start of this year but never applied for any. Thanks!

Your friend should pull his report and make sure he is not a victim of identity theft! The only inquiries seen by creditors are hard inquiries.

What is happening is she gets offers all the time for preapproved cards and apparently they match up with what shows up on credit reports. I thought softs cant be seen by creditors but it did with her.

The softs will match up with the pre-approved offers. I may be real confused here (happens on a regular basis LOL). Is your friend by chance looking at Experian? Those inquiries are harder to discern.

If she is getting pre-approved offers, and they match up with the hards, then she has a cash cow for No PP. Something isn't making sense.
