MBNA's Superbowl commercial in which singer Gladys Knight joins two teams in the playing of a rugby game and an anouncer says "What do they have in common besides a lot of hits? MBNA"(having infinity cards tied in with rugby and music) wasn't the funniest Superbowl commercial but it underscores the point of MBNA's dominance in the infinity card industry. I brought up this subject in a reply to a post by thickman66 were he told how he was able to combine the credit lines of his two MBNA cards. I stated that that was good because MBNA has so much influence in the infinity card industry that anyone could have ties to several entities who all have their own MBNA cards. Would anyone care to share their experiences with MBNA's Infinity cards? I have two that were co branded with a small bank I used to be a customer of. I also had a chance to have an MBNA card through my colleges alumni association, but after already having those two cards I decided to decline getting a third from MBNA.
Re: Re: MBNA and The Superbowl Did not mean to post twice.. sorry. Between my wife and myself, we have a total of 6 MBNA cards, I have a LL Bean, Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and recently received MBNA American express card with World points.. My wife has a Ducks Unlimited and a NEA card.. MBNA is the largest affinity marketing credit company in Business.. I have not had any difficulty with MBNA.. At one time, I also had a line of credit loan that was called a Gold Option loan with them.. I no longer have that loan..
Re: Re: MBNA and The Superbowl Yeah...MBNA is aight. They are also generious with Credit limits from what I am told.
Re: Re: MBNA and The Superbowl No troubles with MBNA so far. I have the SF Giants card and "fortunately" still have a fixed rate product. Mostly get compliments when I use it. People think it's pretty cool to have your favorite team embossed on your credit card. rubyjean you still work at MBNA?
Re: Re: MBNA and The Superbowl Then there is GEORGE no CLI for 9+ YEARS MBNA QUANTUM They said they don't care if I never use the card or use the stuffing out of it...BUT I MUST TAKE A HARD!!! NO I DON'T HAVE TO TAKE A HARD!!!
Re: Re: MBNA and The Superbowl They also called my 3 requests (in 3 years) via PFB FRIVOLOUS AND ARE PROUD TO SAY THEY WON'T EVER RESPOND AGAIN TO A CLI REQUEST WITH-OUT PERMISSION TO PULL A HARD
Re: Re: MBNA and The Superbowl rubyjean - Is there ANY WAY you can use your clout over at MBNA to get GEORGE a cli? Even a few hundred bucks - just to round it up? It would mean SO MUCH to SO MANY of us - I can't even begin to explain
Re: Re: Re: MBNA and The Superbowl DON'T BOTHER JUST A FEW $1,000's MORE AND IT WILL BE PIF AND CHOAKING ON SOCK LINT @ $0.00
Re: Re: Re: MBNA and The Superbowl MBNA is a great bank to deal with for the most part. With some exceptions they give nice credit lines, while not the cheapest when it comes to rates, the by far are not the highest. One of the down sides for some people is to qualify for some type of credit with MBNA you have to have awesome credit. A few blemishes or 1 too many inquires you can forget about getting a card with out a major song and dance. To go even further you miss a payment or become late they are very hard to deal with, so if you have a card with them and another bank and fall on hard times and have to make a decion on which card to pay...pay MBNA because if you dont you might as well cancel christmas becasue it aint gonna be nice, and you can forget about ever opening another account with them. anyway thats my two cents hope it helps. FYI from what I have heard i dont know how true it is.... but if you apply for a fcredit card like a first union card or a citizens bank card its easier to qualify for those cards vs the sports team card. My friend works for citizens bank and from what he was told is for every credit card mbna issues with their logo on it citizens bank will almost secure a portion of the balance for a certain amount of time. citizens makes a little money on transactions fees that it generates and mbna makes the money on the interest. I am not sure how true this is but it makes sense....I applied for a citi bank credit card a few years back and got declined. A day later I applied for a washington mutual visa (issued by citi bank) and was approved. I am guessing the same situation. but once you are in you are good. Have a good night.
Re: Re: Re: MBNA and The Superbowl Nonsense. If MBNA issues the card, then MBNA owns the loan and they are not going to apply different credit underwriting criteria based on the affinity group. You either qualify for any MBNA card or you don't qualify for any MBNA card. The lone exception is Quantum which you have to ask for since a new MBNA customers cannot apply for it directly. Other than that, I agree with your assesment of MBNA.
Re: Re: Re: MBNA and The Superbowl Oh dario you are so right ! And I almost went through the exact same thing. Thats how I ended up getting a MBNA card myself. I was in college almost 10 years ago and Citibank had my campus blanketed with adds and promotions to get the students to apply for their card. The cashiers at the bookstore even tucked a little Citibank flyer into the bag with every purchase. So when I finally could resist no longer I applied and got denied. But I was now hell bent on getting a credit card. So I applied for the MBNA card cobranded with the small California bank, Downey Savings, that I had been a customer of since my parents started a savings account for me when I was a baby.I was approved. So yes I would have to say that it is true that creditcards cobranded with another bank, a business, an organization are easier to get than that banks regular credit card. These entities in cunjunction with MBNA or whoever go to a lot of trouble to create a credit card product for their members or clients and they want to approve as many people as they can from an already small group that is their members. Plus they do get a kickback.
