If I apply online while I am at work can I call later tonight around 8 or 9 Pacific and check the status of it or would it be better to just wait until I am off work and call and apply over the phone at 8 or 9(any problems with calling and applying that late)? I can't make a long phone call for the application at work but could fill out the app in about 10 seconds online, but will wait if it will take longer to find out if I am approved? If I fill it out online and then call will I find out as easily as calling and doing everything over the phone at once? Do they do instant online approval at all or no?

I'm dizzy. Look - you've waited your entire life before getting to this point. What's the difference if you need to wait a day or two for a response? Just apply for the card online, call them sometime tomorrow or tomorrow night for a status report, and take it from there.

Instead of applying online, I personally would have called a credit analyist with the idea that we could reason through this together. It's harder for them to say no that way and I would the opportunity to explain anything that didn't look right rather than get a denial and try to rehabiliate the application. But that's just me.

I know and after screwing up the online app (I think?) I will forever call to apply for a credit card from now on! I omitted the 2 little questions at the top of the online application and nobody knows if my app went through or not and they told me to reapply but if I do they said 2 apps would mean an automatic decline so I will wait until tomrrow to see if it shows up in their computers.

Ok, read carefully. MBNA is the only major issuer that I know of who still does manual reviews. So that means, no matter how you apply, a human person will at some point see your app. So, in this case you can benefit by applying over the phone, as a credit analyst can work with you through the app right on the spot.

For every other major issuer, the computer decides initially and your app is either auto approved, auto declined or sent to a human for further review. In these cases, to make sure that your application gets received in a timely manner by the computer at the credit dept., it is in your best interest to apply online. For example, with Citi online apps take two days to get to the credit dept, but phone apps take one to two weeks to get to the credit dept. And sometimes phone apps don't make it all the way through.

    So with MBNA - call

With all others - go online

    ________

On seeing if the app went through, give it three or four days. MBNA can be slow.

So......since I am revolving a 50% balance at zero am I never going to get a cl increase (like George)? Anyone revolve 50% short term with mbna (or chase or bank one or citi) and still get cl increases regularly?

When I applied over the phone, I had to explain a few things over the phone. I would have been denied because of my high utilization at that time (92%).

Well, it worked. She took my advice (maybe), applied and got the card!

Re: Re: MBNA as bad as posts say?

I got my first MBNA in May02... 5K cl, took a 4800 0% BT through November. At 6 mo they raised my CL to 6K (without me asking), I pd off the BT in November, they immediately offered another through Sep03 (and no-fee!). They then also sent me a preapproved Biz card for 10K, 2.9 for 6mo.

Unfortunately in May I screwed up immediately on the Biz card, I was used to on-line payments crediting within 24hrs; theirs takes up to 3 days; They reversed the "late" charge - and then gave me a CL increase to 7.5k on my personal, said it would be more but the Biz card was already 10k and only 2mo old; check again when the Biz card has 6mo history.

BTW I'm carrying 9K on the 10K card, and just paid off the BT on the 7.5K card, but it had been 90+% also.

My scores started in the 650s, now in the 690s-700s (thanks CN!!).

okay...so if I have a personal card with 50% charged on this 0% bt, and want to apply for the mbna biz card, should I pay like 1000 or something (first payment) to show ability to pay? I have no tu inq's but have 4 on exp which they will probably pull during their review of the app.

Hey John, how's things with MBNA? I charged up my new MBNA on bt too and just paid it off (3 mos.)

    Quick questions.......

Your pre-approved biz card thingy came at the 6 mo mark? Before or after you paid off the personal card?
Did you have to go through their usual rigamarole of applying and grilling and multiple inqs?
Did you request the increase on the 7.5 card or did they auto do that? Was that right after the increase at the 6 mo mark to 6k?
    Good for you! That's awesome!

Re: Re: Re: MBNA as bad as posts sa

It was about 10 mo. before I got the MBNA Biz pre-approved app... come to think of it, I think that was pretty much independent, it was likely only because I'd filed a new Biz tax permit with the state (FL). Apparently, they are new-business-friendly!

Thewy auto-increased me to 6K at 6mo, and then did a requested increase to 7.5k at 12mo... I'm now dropping any cards under 5K, I think to some degree that helps to limit CL increases on other cards. One of my intentions next year is to drop any cards below 10K.

MNBA CS has been just fine, no probs... and today I applied for the Amex Biz cash rewards card - waited for some inqs to fall off my 6-mo history, and all my FICOs to *finally* all be in the 700s at the same time... approved! (don't know how much yet though...)

I'm pretty much making it a point to not apply for any more credit cards until my 12-mo inqs are at 1... and then be very choosy, and then only biz cards, and try to stagger which CRA is used. If I want more personal credit, I'll just get increased CLs... it sure is nicer being a chooser rather than a beggar!!

    (finally reached the 700 club! - 620s-640s in Nov02 to 710s today)
