I think we will have to agree to disagree.

    1. You're backpedaling. This is not what you claimed earlier in this thread.

    2. You say the above even though Platinum has told us that an APR repricing request was met with a hard inquiry.

What you have learned in theory is obviously not what is happening in practice. This board is about what happens in the real world.

If you are risky, they WANT you to move the balance elsewhere. That's why they're encouraging home equity loans to these customers.

If you're relying that much on credit, then you are financially strapped.

It's not a matter of relying on credit or being financially strapped.
It's the principle of preventing creditors and insurers from bilking you with overcharges based on myths and false credit scores.

Well, today I closed my MBNA Quantum MC, $20.000 credit line, 9.99 APR. Even the VP could not do anything for me. I've been told again that 9.99 is the best rate available and they were unable to remove hard inquiry pulled by mistake from TU. So I closed it gladly...

    THEIR LOSS...

I closed my credit line with them today. I still have a Plat Plus card but it will be paid off in about a month or two and then goodbye.

I got the same run around when I called. They won't go below %14.99 (!) on our account, and they claim it's because of constant declines in FICO score.

Too bad DH's FICO and mine have been going steadily up since I found Credit Talk.

We used to have %9.99 or something close to that, then they jacked the rate and wouldn't go down.

They claimed I have made one payment late. I have a copy of my check, it cleared 4 days before date due, but they're saying tough shit.

It's just not worth fighting over. This card has no benefits, high APR and customer service from hell.

As I said earlier, no matter how good the offer sounds, if it says MBNA anywhere on it, it goes to the shredder!!

And if you don't even get any benefits, trash it!! If you need the limits for ratios, keep it open but don't use it. Citi, FirstUSA and others give cards with benefits.

You guys are gonna luvvvvvv this!! MBNA keeps encouraging me to use my BT checks and I had not used this wonderful new card, so I use a BT check for half my cl and notice a week or so later a HARD inq from MBNA. They claim their fraud dept "must have" checked because the check was made to Amsouth Bank. "SO??" It is not their policy to do a hard inquiry, it should have been a soft inq. DUH! But because the fraud department wasn't in when I called they were supposed to do something, find out something or otherwise SIT STILL and call me back the next day, WHICH I might add, has not happened. I told them, I will not use a card that will pull a HARD inquiry on me every time I use the BT checks THEY keep encouraging me to use!!! What a dang waste. I am still peeved! Marci, know the head of their fraud dept so I can raise cain???

They certainly are inquiry-happy, aren't they? I shred everything I get from them.

    MBNA cardholders..the ULTIMATE pull

I was going to goodwill them and called to get ph & fax # for presidential offices.

CSR said didn't have #'s and refused to connect me with supvr.
Checked Experian couple days later and found hard inq. for that date. Didn't ask for any credit related stuff like CL increase or rate change. Sheesh, I didn't even get the ph. #'s!

p.s. - I bet they'd pull a hard just for asking the time of day.

No one can tell me that they don't know they are lowering your score when they do that. It's as bad as Capital One not reporting the CL. People are suing Capital One under the FCRA, but MBNA is free to do this with no repercussions. Most people don't even know what they do.

And they are the ones who are bypassing the courts and going straight to mediation to collect.

Okay.....yesterday I followed up with MBNA's mgr who the credit dept. told me to call if "dude" who was supposed to call fraud to get that inq removed or recoded as a soft didn't call me back.
He said he would call fraud and call me back, which he did the same day and was VERY pleasant and professional. He said they would in fact be removing that inquiry, and he would be babysitting the process to make sure it got done. I think I'll call him back and ask him for that in writing.
The part I know you will all want to hear is the so-called reason they do this. According to him is that they (please hold back your gales of laughter) don't have the "power" to choose whether it's hard or soft from where they are at. You can imagine what I said to that. He's a CSR mgr. I can just bet that if some of their CSR's are like some of the subs we use they don't have a clue what pulling their credit does to someone. He said something like, when they have exhausted other means, sometimes they do pull credit because they have to use the tools available to them. (Back to.....we can't choose between hard and soft.) Ahem. Anyways, there ya go. I'll keep you posted about whether they remove it or not. There is hope!! :)

All credit software is required to indicate an "inquiry type" including reason explanation text

I wrote software for the 3 credit bureaus and had to revamp it all due to legislation like 7-8 years ago. Most bureaus wanted an inquiry TYPE & REASON, although the reason code never ever went on the report but shows on the billing statements whens its broke down from the credit bureau. I always found that odd. It's like they REQUIRED a full box explanation for the inquiry TYPE, but such information i've rarely seen on credit reports.

Some of the bureaus just have a huge list of reasons coded for each segment market.

some bureaus i think just use it for internal billing back reference and to cover their arses.

In each case each report HAD to have this information. Of course companies as big as mbna may have more leeway on the rules, but it was not a joking matter. If you didn't update to the new version of credit software that had the inq types & reason boxes, you'd not get a report back.

    go figure.

I have Quantum World Points MC and Elite Rewards Visa with them and I called to ask for rate reduction. They told me that 9.9% is the best rate for Quantum and 8.99% for Elite Rewards. They didn't pull hard inquiry from credit reports. One time they increased my limit of my Quantum Card, Every two months they increased credit limit for Quantum World Points MC and three months for my Elite Rewards. They mailed me many, many BT checks from the mail and I didn't write any of them because there is 3% of transaction charge. Both of my accounts only has under $200 and paid it off as soon as the statement ended. They didn't jack up my rate so far and I like MBNA. In my book they're alright. By the way, I have one more Apple Instant Loan to purchases Apple computer and I used it a couple of times. I don't have any problems with that .
