MBNA CS reps would tell you the only way to get your application reconsidered is to WRITE them, since their Credit Dept does not take calls. Unfortunately, that's a lie. Here's the direct # for MBNA Credit Dept - they have the power to override decisions over the phone: (888) 807-6262. Here's some more info about them: 1. No application is declined until reviewed by a credit analyst. 2. They require at least 3 years of credit history, but would waive it if you have a reasonable explanation. Saar
I was approved for the Amtrak Platinum plus when my longest credit card (CapitalOne) was 19 months old., and the second one(Saks) 9 months old.
Any bk is a cause for an automatic denial. This is after a credit analyst reviews the account but credit can be considered with 7 years of post-bk positive tradeline. Still I do not know if the credit dept. at MBNA can override the credit analyst's review. Best regards, Sam
1. The Credit dept is authorized to override denials. Period. 2. As I said, the 3-year-history requirement can be waived, at the credit dept's discretion. They normally won't exercise that discretion unless they talk to you first. They may call while considering one's application to discuss it. Saar
Saar- How diffcult is it for someone who is denied based on a bk to have the credit dept. override the denial? At first I was going to try PFB but if the credit dept. is the way to go than I will try there first. Btw- my offical denial was based from Experian but when I spoke with the MBNA the CA told me that they pulled from TU and TRW. Best regards, Sam
I have not had very successful dealings with MBNA. The reason is BK related. However... On one (1) occasion, MBNA contacted me by letter and agreed to further discuss my application for credit. It was very apparent I was being denied but that MBNA was willing to discuss. I was requested to telephone them at 800-441-7048. Ask for Customer Advocate. I did not follow up on the matter so I can't help you with any other information. Try Saar's method first. Best regards, Jim
Jim- thanks for the reply. Can't hurt to try, as my bk-13 should fall off in 24 months. Perfect history post-bk. Best regards, Sam
Hi Sam, Let me mention the reason I did not call back... My BK does not show in the public section and my TU score has been running in the lower 800s. I only have 2 negatives on my TU report and both are BK discharged credit card accounts. Therefore, I was afaid to rock the boat. It would be just my luck to start a discussion with MBNA and have them look up the BK and put it in the "public section". Therefore, I never called them back. I was intrigued about the "Customer Advocate". If it is like Cap One - you may have some luck. But be careful if your BK is not showing in the public record. If it is - what do have to lose? Good luck Jim
Jim, your are right. I am living proof that MBNA does pull two reports. My bk-13 appears on all 3 reports. But I've been perfect for over 5 years. Will call in the next couple of days and will post my results. Need a replacement over Providian. Best regards, Sam
Hi Sam! I agree with your strategy. My Providian Gold card is history in 15-27 months. Best regards - Jim
Sam, I am a Credit Analyst who is employed by MBNA, Due to the tragic events that Have happened in New York.. I am presently on a Task Force in Customer assistance in the Charge off unit.. 180 days past due.. Saar is correct in regards to every credit decision is made by a credit analyst.. The Toll Free Number that he gave is also correct.. That toll free Number is left to People who apply for a Credit Card on their answering machines ect, If there is a situation that the analyst needs to call to develop Delinquency, Lack of file.. ect.. It is not used for Reconsideration.. We do get calls sometimes from Applicants who Call TACS.( Customer Service) Because they are upset that they were denied credit. and want to know why.. They are not supposed to give out that Tel Number.. Because We have a Department within MBNA that will reconsider applications.. It Has to be done by written response only , when you receive your Adverse action letter giving you the reasons why you were denied.. Once an application has been denied and a letter has been sent, the reconsideration unit after looking at your written request and feels that they can approve you .. they will.. MBNA is getting into a lot of Instant Decisioning in which an applicant calls in over the phone gives, Telesales the Imformation and then after Conferences them over to the credit Department where a decision can be made right then with the Customer right on the line.. IN that case if the applicant was not happy with the Decision given for the decline.. and before the final decision is made.. He can ask for a supervisor and if they feel that there is not any risk, may overturn it.. In regards to two Credit report being pulled , it is for only two reasons.. One is to try to approve you and the other to try to decline.. MBNA uses Experian(TRW) and TU (Transunion).. It is very seldom that MBNA will approve anyone that is the Card Holder or Joint holder that has had a BKO with in the last 7 -10 years.. And if you are approved you will need 5-7 years of re established credit with Major Credit Cards.. Ect.. Orchid credit cards ,excluded..
Rubyjean, thank you for the insight. Appears that MBNA has very standards when it comes to granting people credit after bk. I understand (not agree) about the 7 year history with a major cc is needed, but what is comment about "excluding Orchard Bank"? Best regards, Sam
OOOhhhh that "Orchard Bank" comment really caught my attention as well. PLLLLLEEEEAAAASSSSEEEE don't leave us hanging. For those of us that have this card, is it being held against us?
Sam, Orchard , Sterling Bank, First Premier, are a few of the Lenders who will give Credit Cards, with fees, ect that are attached to them for people who have recently had major Delinquency in the past, most of the time they will only have a small credit line to start.. If the only revolving debt after a BKO, ect is one of these, it does not help as much as People hope it will as far as establishing credit.. It is just the Way that some prime lenders look at it.. I hope that everthing works out well in the future.. Ed
If this is the case than re-establishing credit after a bk is very diffcult with MBNA. I myself (thanks to this board) have avoided the CCBs of the world but there are many others who have no choice or don't know any better. The question is- what does MBNA look for as a bona-fide major cc for track record? I myself have moved slowly forward with my Providians, Cap 1 and Nextcard. I consider these cc as the middle of the road. Total cl is over $13k Will MBNA look at this as favorable or lump them with the Orchard Bank crowd? Do having a mortgage after bk count? The beauty of this board is to educate with insight and shared experieces such as what you have posted. Best regards, Sam
sam, if you keep all of those accounts in good standing for five years , plus your mortgage, You will be well on your way.. Just keep a good payment history and do not let the Balances get to high.. Good luck.. You may not get a 10 k line.. Figure a line of around 5.5 k, maybe.. keep the faith..
