Re: Re: Re: Re: MBNA Preferred to Platinum Upgrade? equifax shows i only have two cards. so i'd say for equifax they do handle it correctly. I just checked. same with creditexpert. two tradelines. all my apple/bluenile loans show as opened/closed however from doing the BDD.
Re: Re: Re: Re: MBNA Preferred to Platinum Upgrade? Thank you sam! I also just called in to customer service, so let me report back what happened: I asked about upgrading my account to platinum, and the rep said that he is going to put me on hold to see if that can be done. He came back, asking me if I have talked to someone two days ago, so I told him the whole confusion for the past three weeks. He explained to me that he couldn't do it, and that the only way to do it would be to wait for the system to invite me, at which point I will have new account numbers, but the account will be reported as the same on the credit reports, and the reward points will stay. I then asked him what the critiera are for getting invited, but he said he doesn't know, and don't know who may know (not even retention). I asked him how often people are invited, and he said its quite often, since he has been there for five years. He also said that I just need to be a good customer. At which point I explained to him how whether my account has platinum status is going to determine whether I will be a "good" customer (since I don't want to charge purchases on it without the platinum beneftis). I also told him how MBNA card is my favorite among all my other platinum cards, but its only a preferred card. He said something like "before I let you go, let me check one last thing for you." So he put me on hold, and after a while, he told me that he has found a manager who will take over. He gave me her direct number, and said that she will get back to me Friday or early next week. So this story has a happy ending: I am getting a platinum card. I think the experience of few other posters on this topic is very true: you should always talk pleasantly to the rep, and one of them will come through for you.
Re: Re: Re: Re: MBNA Preferred to Platinum Upgrade? yeah and calling on new years eve is probably not the best time lol
Re: Re: Re: Re: MBNA Preferred to Platinum Upgrade? Probably, but it wasn't intentional. If only they would gave platinum to me the first time I call, they wouldn't have deal with me on New Year's Eve. (crossing out "get platinum" on my new year's resolution...)
Re: Re: Re: Re: MBNA Preferred to Platinum Upgrade? Either way, I'm glad you got what you wanted. Congrats!.
Re: Re: Re: Re: MBNA Preferred to Platinum Upgrade? Thanks! (Now I just hope I don't lose the reward points or old tradeline ...) Thanks to everyone who helped!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: MBNA Preferred to Platinum Upgrade? I've always been told by MBNA that rewards points are not transferable, so generally I redeem them before closing out the old account.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: MBNA Preferred to Platinum Upgrade? I gave the manager a call back (she didn't call me on Monday), and she said that she has submitted the request for me. I also had her confirm for me that I will lose my account number, but I will keep my reward points and account history, so it seems to be going well.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: MBNA Preferred to Platinum Upgrade? Congratulations!! I just hope they don't hit you with a hard inquiry. Keep another card for backup. MBNA is bad about jacking rates for no apparent reason. Sometimes because you use your card too much. So have something else that you use occasionally to keep it active.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: MBNA Preferred to Platinum Upgrade? Thanks! As far as I can tell, no additional inquiry has been made, although the upgrade hasn't happened either. In any case, I am just happy to get the upgrade, and I have my way of getting rid of the inquiry I sure hope my reward points will be the same - I have more than $100 this month. But aif I lose them I can call in to complain.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: MBNA Preferred to Platinum Upgrade? MBNA is only going to jack your rate if your more than 70% utilization or late. Other than that, I don't think they will. a while ago my wife was 30-days late on Macys, MBNA did nothing, but Citi jacked her rate from 7.9 to 12.9.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: MBNA Preferred to Platinum Upgrade? I do have backup cards, and I don't carry balance, so I don't really worry about jacking rates. (although I do have a huge balance coming up from my ATT Universal card). Credit card companies are rather random, sometimes they jack, sometimes they don't.
