I can't think of any telcom company that deserves praise, but MCI has to be the worst of the lot. What an incompetent company. If you're thinking about using MCI for local & long-distance, you may want to think again. The surcharge, excise and other miscellaneous fees alone should be enough to deter you. Think you're paying $0.09/min? Wrong. Consider this: $100 worth of phonecalls incurred a staggering $40 in various fees and taxes. That's 40%! In other words, your call that you think is costing you $0.09/min is in fact costing you $0.13/min. MCI, like other telcoms, is also required to pay some Universal Fee of sorts which--big surprise--they pass on to their customers. Now what really gets me is that the Fed charges telcoms 6.89% or thereabouts. When you get the bill from MCI you'll find they're charging you 12% for the very same fee. In other words not only are they covering their asses on that particular fee, they're also raking it in by *doubling* that very rate! As soon as I discovered all this I cancelled my account point-blank. That was July 20. To date I still have a dialtone. Calls to MCI reveal that they are "working on the matter" to disconnect my service (used them for local & long-distance.) When you press them about why it takes so long the invariable response is "well, you know...computers and stuff..takes long time.." LOL 'nuff said. -bb
I wholeheartedly agree!!! I cancelled MCI because I was so sick of their fees. Right after I cancelled I started getting the phone calls begging me to come back. I told them to take me off their list. They said they would but it could take up to 6 weeks and in the mean time I might still get calls. I told them bull*#(%. That is too long and I would sue if I continued to get calls. They said the law gives them that amount of time. That was 3 months ago and I did receive a couple more calls but wasn't in the mood to fight with them by then. For the last two months I kept getting bills with the fees and monthly fee (5.00, total bill about 7 or so). It had right on the bill that they were sorry I was no longer an MCI customer and if I want to come back call this number..... I called customer service and asked why I am still being billed. She said she showed that my service was never cancelled. I read the statement on my bill and told her about all the calls I received but she insisted I was still an MCI customer. Mind you, they were not billing for my calls, just the monthly fee & taxes and stuff. So she promised to credit my account for the last 3 months and cancel me. We'll see I guess
