i settled a Fleet account today the paperwork I have states the account will report as "paid settled". I asked Adele at FLeet before payment: "this will reprt at CRA as paid settled and show as a zero balance right?" she says" no, it will report as paid settled but hte balance will be the reaminder of what you owe after this payment." I said, "that can not be true because I am not paying off the balance I am settling." she pauses: "nope the reaming balance will show..click" hung up. was she new maybe? AM I wrong to assume a paid settled account will show a zero balance? I padi because I am almost done paying them and will do the validation route later as I found this site to late into the process........
thanks for the reply, I understand that, my question is: If i am settling an account it shoudln't report as a the full balance less the amount i paid to settle..........I AM SETTLING.....meaning.....I pay x amount to settle the account to zero, right???????
I would think so - again, I haven't seen mine in the past show any balance. Maybe someone else on the board has seen otherwise?
Yes Erin. You can be sure that unless you got it in writing they will renig. Who did you make this deal with, and is it in writing? ??? .
hello butch, I have this letter from Fleet: this letter is confirming we have agreed to accept a payment of $2757.00 for your 7200.00 balance on your. This will settle your account. Should you accpet this offer, Fleet will report the account to the three major credit bureaus within 60 days of your payment as "paid settled". .......there is more but tax informaiton and monthly payment options. I have done this two other times, my other accounts also state paid settled, and list a $0 balance. I asked this same question to Mathew at homebuyerscredithelp.com this morning and he said that yes, paid settled, does list a $0. balance.....just looking for more reinforcement. I called adele back and just asked her if by chance she was new...she said yes, theyw ere just boguht by another bank or something and eveybody quite nad she was new. THat is all I asked.......interesting..right?
Well good. That leter is all the reinforcement you need Erin. Since you're so close to closing this just go ahead and get the debt behind you. Later you can attack the problem from the standpoint that they cannot seem to report it correctly, an FCRA violation. That's the way I'd handle it. .
