is there anything that would keep a CA from trying to collect on my cell phone? I have no idea how they got the number..its annoying.
i have to pay when they call and I cant tell who they are b/c it comes up unidentified just like half the calls I get.
    :/

on a side note, how would I proceed with this one? it currently isnt on my credit report that i can see.
its a medical bill from 2002. the CA is in texas , as is the OC.

anything HIPPA-wise I can do here?

    ILLEGAL--no calls to CELL PHONES

You pay for the call (it is kinda' like them calling COLLECT)...even if you get UNLIMITED INCOMING...YOU PAY!!!

Have you EVER listed your cell phone as your home number? I truly DO NOT have a home phone, so by default, I list my cell phone as my home phone. They have no way of knowing if they're calling a cell phone unless I tell them that it's one.

If you've given the dr's/hospital the cell phone as a secondary contact, that would probably be how they got it.

But it still is illegal to contact you in any way to force you to pay for the call before you know that it is for a collection purpose.

The great thing about cell phones is that most have an on off button, and a silent ring tone, or you can opt not to have one. They are not a total necessity. eople have just been conditioned to think they are.

offtopic -- that's not true depending on where you live. if you live in a violent danergous city, then you should really have a cell phone. i have had to call 9 -1- 1 5 or 6 times (in the last few months) because people were assaulting other people on the street, etc etc.

has nothing to do with 'thinking I need' a cell phone.
I know I need one. I have 3 children my cell phone is strictly for emergencies. the only person who has the number is my wife, my children's school and the doctors..and it clearly states on any form i've ever filled out that this number is my cell phone and is for emergencies only.
so i answer it when it rings.
anyway, i will contact this place and tell them they are calling my cell phone and to stop. probably will just mail them a letter. i dont normally call CA's.

Mark, (and someone correct me if i am wrong) do what you said and just mail them -- don't call them. ask them for validation and put a cease and desist all other communication except for written communication in the letter.

perhaps you might want to point out that they have already violated the law by costing you money by calling your cell phone (what do others think about that?).

in the end, it doesn't matter whether you "need" a cell phone or not anyway -- it's your right to have one and it's against the law for them to call you in a fashion that would cost you money. you shouldn't have to change things about your life because a CA can't follow the law!

It's only illegal if they are blocking their name.

Since they are blocking their names, it would be illegal for them to call you on your cell phone. But in my honest opinion, until you notify them that they are calling you on a cell phone, and inform them to never call you on the cell phone again you would have a hard time sueing them for a call to the Cell Phone. They probably could easily produce documentation showing that was the only number for you they were given.

Yes, but only if it's a collect call or call that causes charges to you (and Cell Phone falls within that) is it illegal for them to conceal their identity.

I have only had a couple of my banks show up on the CALLER ID as their name and number (AMEX & DISCOVERCARD)---ALL OTHERS ARE OUT OF AREA/UNKNOWN

BUT they are NOT calling as a CA...if that matters

    HOME PHONE not CELL PHONE
