I've managed to get so much stuff deleted off my reports I'm down to only a few negatives and less than $500 in debt out of $32,000, but this CA won't play ball. They tell me they won't settle for anything less than the full amount and that they will not remove the negative listing from the CRAs even if I pay it in full. This charge is from 12/2003. It's $178 and I just want to have it gone all ready. I've disputed it, sent pay for deletes, disputed it again, everything but threatening to sue them. This is one hold out! They won't budge. I'm definitely at my wits end. I know that the SOL is almost up on it, just one more year, but I need it gone now. It's medical, and I've heard that sometimes if you go to the original creditor they can usually work out more beneficial terms....
any one have any luck with this?

Congrats on taking the initiative to clear up the negatives on your credit reports and lower your debt. It sounds like you've been very busy.

Was this medical debt you're referencing from a hospital visit? If so, most hospitals have some sort of charitable or financial aid department that will work with you to clear up the debt if you contact them directly. It's not a very large amount, so I think you should at least try working with them to see what they can offer.

Unfortunately, I've never dealt with one personally, but I have read that they can be quite helpful for individuals in your situation. Anyone else have a personal experience to share?

It was a private doctor. I went directly to the doctor's office yesterday and paid it. I should have gotten it in writing, but the lady told me that it won't go back to collections. I guess it was assigned. I'm going to wait a little bit and if it doesn't drop off I guess I'll start another round of letters.
