I have been reading before I do anything to my report. Here is my situation; I have 3 accounts that were turned over to a lawyer all are medical. The last inquiry into my credit was by this lawyer Feb 2005 which corresponds to the last account. All state CO. I did not know anything about these bills and this is the only credit I have NOTHING else. Heres my question, should I dispute these as not mine OR should I go to the original source and try to make a deal. The total is only 1100.00 dollars.

    Were there insurance payments involved?

Were the correct claims filed, the proper adjustment made under any contracts between provider and insurance company, and were bills sent to you for the correct remaining amounts due?

These are the main areas where medical "debts" go into collection for amounts that may not even be legally due. Therefore, forcing the parties involved to honor their contractual obligations may be the most direct path to both reducing the debt owed, and obtaining removal of erroneously billed amounts posted to your CR.

This may sound strange but I do not know I never recieved a bill or any notice that there was any outstanding balance.

Did you have insurance coverage in place at the time services were provided? Did you give your insurance information to the provider at the time of service? Was the provider "in-network" and covered by a contract with your insurer?
