Ok, all the shenanigans surrounding the Time Man of the Year pick (to be finalized this Sunday) got me thinking. Why not the Creditnet Member of the Year? Here are my top four nominations for 2001:

-- Lizardking: for his version of the Validation Letter.

-- marci: for showing us all how to turn Citibank into a fawning love slave.

-- dogman: for teaching us what it means to triumph over adversity with inspired bravery and true class.

-- breeze: for her eminently informed and always helpful presence.

The floor is now open for additional nominations (I've left out so many, obviously).

I second the nomination for LizardKing with honorable mentions to the others, and I nominate PsychDoc for CreditNet Man of the Year if for nothing else, his telephone hotline!

And I feel pretty good myself considering my scores were all in the low to mid 400's in June 2001...

    Hmmm,

I just can't pick one over the other.

All are so incredibly helpful, do their research and share it, push the boundaries, and are so quick to help those who ask for info and/or advice. We are so lucky that they are here. KUDOS go to all of them and to many others who weren't nominated as well.

I know I'm leaving out so many that aren't coming to mind right now. Probably because it's 4:30 on a Saturday morning and my brain feels like mush. Give me a couple hours and I can fill in the blanks.

Christi, I don't think my full story is posted here, but let me summarize it for you: In May of 2001 I was pissed that I had no credit cards at all and scores in the 400's on two CRA's and no score on the third. I was a mess. My discharged BK chapter 7 from 4 years ago was haunting me. My income was high so I just paid cash for everything and used a ocmpany credit card for travel.

I was doing everything I could to build my score. Everything.

    • first I realized that the fastest way for me to build scores was with credit cards and I had none so I searched the internet for sub prime cards that would approve even low-down me
    • I knew to never charge above 35% of my credit limits and pay most of the balance but never to $0. If you pay to $0 before the date they report they probably won't report
    • I started with Cap 1 Visa
    • then Orchard Bank Mastercard
    • then 1st Nat'l Bank of Marin Visa
    • then Cross Country Bank Visa
    • then Centennial Mastercard
    • then 1st Premier Visa
    • I figured that was enough cards
    • I disputed off my previous addresses and employment that dragged down my score
    • after 1 month with cap 1 I told them that $400 limit was too small, they raised me to $1200
    • that's basically it, no car credit
    • my mortgage company of the last 5 years doesn't report
    • I got AU on a relative's Amex with a 23 year perfect history and that gave me my only history older than 6 months.

I am still a work in progress. Early this month I got on the C.H.O.D. train. My final derog trade dropped of this week. Now I'm totally new and clean except my chapter 7. Today, every credit card in my wallet is subprime. I look forward to the day I can get the double CitiAA and combine them and switch to platinum. I really look forward to the day I can get an Amex LOC. And some of the other goodies I hear people cheering about. I need a new car too. The Chevy and Ford dealers are begging me to accept 0% but I want a luxury vehicle, a little harder.
That brings me to the present. I feel I got a lot done fairly quickly. I know then when I kill my mail boxes etc. address that I've been using for 5 years and use a residential single family home, that move alone should boost my score at least another 20 or 30 points. We'll see...

y'all make me blush, and get all warm fuzzies. I should say something witty, but ummmmm, I'm speechless. Write it down - it doesn't happen often.

My vote goes to Saar for giving us top-notch insider information, crucial to getting what we want.
