I don't hear people here rave about Merrick(generally), but I have to say they have been very good to me (so far). Just logged into my account online and got an automatic $500 CL increase at 6 months... didn't even have to bother them. Better than Crap1 where you practically have to offer your first born for an increase! Just an FYI, maybe other Merrick cardholders will get a similar welcome surprise on there 6 month anniversary.
I am a current holder of Merrick Bank also and you are right no one ever brings them up, except to complain about them taking over the Nextcard accounts with worse terms. I am coming up on 6 months soon and found your subject helpful thank you. Merrick Bank has been good to me also $0 annual fee and no problems.
Merrick is crap. They care nothing about loyalty and payment history. I have had a secured account with them for 1 year 9 months. I called a few weeks ago to get a CL raise. Get a letter saying i have to add more money to my deposit. Then i called a few days ago to make the card unsecured. We will have to take a new application. F that. Im not taking a hard for this shitty bank. I will call a few days before the card is 2 years old. and probably will close the crappy card. I have 5 secured cards. I have closed 3 of those in the past month. They care nothing about payment history. "Sir we cant waive the annual fee, that is part of the agrement you signed. Also that covers us reporting the account to the cras" yeah right. I asked for a cl of 1000. denied. all these cards have shitty limits of 300-500. The only card i have kept is First Premier. It is 2 years old and my oldest card. They waived my annual fee, so i guess its worth it to keep it. To let it age more.
I don't have Merrick, but Cap1 raised my line from $500 to $2250 the third month I had the card. Hasn't gone up since, but I only got the card last October when I dumped eMerge after losing my Get Smart card to that bunch of shysters.
What other secured cards do you have? And is it OK to have 5 of them?! I don't have credit history and I'm looking the best way to go. Thanks
