Some Stole my Military I.D card tonight it has my SS# number on it along with my dads. My dad is Florida and me in Cali, Is there a way to put a watch on my SS# I am going to the Base tomorrow morning to let them know it was stolen. Amanda
As a former military policewoman, I know you should report your missing ID ASAP to the MP station. Someone can use this to gain access to base. Not good. Since the person now has your SSN, you will have to monitor your credit report for unusual activity for a while. I'm afraid this is all you can do (to my knowledge). I do not think there is a way to put a "watch" on yor SSN.
Thanks, I was going to do this this morning and I got a phone call they found my bag, but they just took all the money and left the checks and ID... The Military needs to take off the SSN of the ID cards :-/ Amanda
When my ex-husband went into the military, over 35 years ago, the military used serial numbers which bore no relation to the SSN. He hadn't been in too many years when they began to use the SSN. Seems like they should have stayed with the old serial number. You can put a fraud alert on your credit reports. If I were you, I'd put a 90-day alert on. That means that no one is supposed to give you credit without contacting you first. So if someone took down your SSN and tried to get instant credit, they would be turned down and the creditor would call you. If nothing happens in 90 days you're probably fine. My suspicion is that they only wanted money, and didn't realize the value of the military ID. If they didn't realize that they probably are not heavy into fraud and won't think to use the SSN (if they even looked at it!!).
