I have had the Amex Gold Card for several years now + Membership Rewards. The last time I called CS in October, they indicated that I was preapproved for a Rewards Plus Gold Card and that all I had to do was accept. I asked what that gave me as opposed to my current account and the rep said that the RP Gold card allows me to earn double MR points on everyday spend whereas the regular Gold + MR does not. Today, I find out that I have been earning double everyday points all along on regular Gold card (both accts are still open). Does this make sense? Is there no difference between these accounts? If so I am going to call and cancel the newer acct right away b/c its annual fee is higher than that of standard Gold card + Membership Rewards. Why would it cost more if there is no added benefit?
Niceguy, The rewards plus amex lets you have up to five cardholders for the $150.00 fee and in cludes the MR fee. I think the other gold card accounts add an additional fee for each extra cardmember + you have a MR fee. Regards, Chester
